HyCosy or no HyCosy?

We heard back from our fertility tests that everything looked good on both mine and my partner’s side (apart from some elevated round cells).

The consultant asked if we wanted to do a hycosy but also told us that no matter the outcome, our recommended next step would be IVF (i.e. if tubes are closed = IVF, if tubes are open = either carry on trying which hasn’t worked, or IVF). So she kinda swayed us into thinking there’s no benefit to getting it done.

I know some people say it increases their fertility for 3 months after, but also I don’t want to waste any more time and push back our inevitable IVF referral.

Also is it weird I haven’t had any day 3 tests? I’ve only had day 21 and also a random day AMH test.

I'd guess the reason why you were never offered it because you did manage to fall pregnant naturally, even though it ended in a loss. So sorry to hear everything that you have been through. I'm getting a hycosy next month and my Dr said she doesn't offer it to everyone, but as there is a chance my tubes are blocked it's worthwhile having it done.

A Hycosy (to my understanding) is just to see if your tubes are open. Hopefully these other tests will maybe give you some more answers. It's worth asking your doctor about it though, as you never know what they might say! X

Oh that’s great! I’m so pleased for you! I had a hycosy on day 13 and usually ovulate day 18-22 so currently waiting to ovulate and hoping to try for three more cycles before moving onto ICSI (hubby has slightly low count)…

Lots of apprehension, such a mental journey and can’t shake the fear that it’ll never happen which is silly cause I’m very determined to have a family even if that’s through adoption!!

when are you due? Xx

Hello, just jumping on this thread although I know it's a few months old. How did you get on after your hycosy? Have you had any luck? Xx

Hi all

We had a hyfosy ( with foam)
Last year

My tubes were blocked

So its ivf soon 4 us

( they think i may have endo or ademoysis )

A test worth having
On NHS.
Blood test

Ca125.

If your result is abnormal - you could have endo etc

Also NHS crp blood test
For inflammation in the body

worldwidetravel2017 · 02/03/2025 11:15

We had some letrozole cycles b4 hyfosy

And ultimately my tubes werent both blocked in past
As concieved naturally and had early miscarriage ...

Things can change

Summer 2023- they were adamant my ovaries were not polycystic on scan

Feb 2024 - they definitely were

But they didnt tell me til april 2024

worldwidetravel2017 · 02/03/2025 11:16

I also really rate the ' it starts with an egg book '

Good levels of feretin , b12 and vit d

Are also important.

I.also recommend hertility health
Costs 150 gbp
I used it twice

They test lots

@OneHeapedTeaspoonOfSugar that's absolutely amazing news, congratulations!! Did you fall pregnant in the cycle after your Hycosy then? How long had you been trying for before? X

It was the same cycle so I wonder if it helped clear things out for us as hubby has low sperm count! We’d been trying actively about 10 months so was cycle 9 but with low sperm count and I have pcos and adenomyosis we were gearing up for IVF as didn’t think it would happen naturally for us! Don’t know if it was coincidence or if the hycosy worked by clearing out the tubes but we have made it halfway so I don’t regret having it done!xxxx

@OneHeapedTeaspoonOfSugar that's amazing, I'm so so happy for you. Keeping everything crossed for you for the next 20 weeks!!! Did you find the hycosy ok? Was there anything else you did that you think might have helped you conceive that month? I'm going for my hycosy next week xx

I really didn’t find it very bad, I was so worried as I’d read horror stories but it was pretty straight forward and nothing more than discomfort!! Good luck to you for yours, it really wasn’t too bad 🩷 and that was the only thing we’d done differently that month so maybe it was luck or maybe not but don’t give up hope xxxxx

Ilovetobake2 · 04/03/2025 16:18

@OneHeapedTeaspoonOfSugar honestly such amazing news - I'm so very happy for you. It's wonderful to hear that the procedure wasn't so bad either.

Do you mind me asking what your fertility journey was leading up to the HyCosy? How long had you been trying for? Just looking for positive stories/experiences to give me a bit of a morale boost xx
