Hi all,

For those who have PCOS, what were your symptoms and how did you get diagnosed please?

I have not been diagnosed, but I do have suspicion that I have something similar, I have a doctors appointment next week to discuss irregular periods which I have always had. Scans have not shown anything abnormal but I do have what I'd say more hair than normal on my chin and stomach in addition to the irregular periods.

I'm now TTC also and have almost missed 2 periods in a row now and I don't want to be fobbed off by my GP as I haven't been TTC long.

Hi,

They found I had PCOS by doing an ultrasound scan. They couldn't find anything so they had to do an internal and that's when I got diagnosed.

I hope this helps x

I hope you’re appointment went well! Did your GP refer you for the original scans?

I’ve made an appointment with my GP to talk about irregular periods. We’ve been TTC for 6months with no luck and I‘ve always had chin hairs, struggles with my weight and high cholesterol.
It’s a 6week wait to even get a doctors appointment, and I’m so worried about getting fobbed off too.

I'm in the same boat as you. I had been trying for a bit longer before I contacted the GP, not the full year though, but the ball has been rolling since September last year and I'm on my first cycle with Clomid at the moment. My symptoms were long, irregular cycles (between 30 and 55 days). I do also get the cystic acne and some hair on my face but not a lot. I also have been slowly gaining weight for the past 5 years, even though my diet and level of exercise is better than it's ever been! I had an ultrasound which showed the polycystic ovaries, my blood hormone levels were normal but they couldn't confirm ovulation with blood tests.

There's a few things you'll need before you get referred. Your GP can get the ball rolling for you. You will need an ultrasound (external and internal) to check your ovaries and uterus. Cycle Day 2 blood test and Day 21 blood test to see if you are ovulating. Semen test for your OH. You'll need all of these things as a minimum before you get referred to fertility. They might also want an AMH test, blood tests for STI's (both you and OH) and swabs for STI's.

In the meantime, regular exercise and a good diet. They are sometimes funny if your BMI is high so maybe address that with your GP and see if you are within the right range for treatment or whether you will need to lose any weight.

Hope this is helpful xxx

Can I ask what your outcome from this was? 🥺

I've currently missed 3 periods and feel I have PCOS, went to the doctor and explained everything and the symptoms I have and got told they don't investigate periods until its been 6 months of missing them 😭 and it will correct itself.

I keep getting twinges and cramps in my pelvis that come in waves too, not exactly painful but uncomfortable. Gaining weight and can't seem to get rid of it. Cycles were between 32 and 38 days. Seem to get a bit of hair on my stomach now.

Can anyone help?
I've been diagnosed with PCOS in Nov 23 in December i started to take metformin tablets 1000mg a day
in December I had a period which lasted for 5 days and was a normal flow
since this I have had struggle to identify if I have been ovulating (misleading clear blue digital tests results) and now on I’m my period but it’s not really a period more like spotting which has taken place for 4 days.
i don’t understand how last month was a good flow(without to much detail) and this months there’s been literally nothing :(

This is an old thread, you might get a better response by starting a new question. I would recommend BBT to confirm ovulation; either instead of or in addition to the Ovulation tests.
