ovualtion date confusion

Can anyone help? I have so many conflicting bits of information... I cannot work out when my ovulation days are supposed to be because one website says day 12 while another day 15/16 some tell you to count forwards from the start of your cycle, some tell you to count backwards from when you think youre likely to bleed again but my cycles have been a bit of a shambles since i miscarried last june. they range from 27 days to 6 weeks (this only happened once but it was stressful AF 😭) I cant seem to get it to regulate and with all this differing information on ovulaton days I cant seem to get the right day to make it happen. my partner works away a lot at the moment and we are trying to time his days at home with ovualtion but its been 7 months and no luck 😪I just need one clear, medically approved, piece of info to work from so i can get a handle on this

TIA xx

Hey- Your ovulation date can vary cycle to cycle but you can predict it with a few methods. Your follicular phase of your cycle can vary in length each cycle. Your luteal phase should generally be around the same number of days each cycle (so once you have confirmed ovulation you can know when your period should start).
BBT can confirm ovulation after the event but if I want to know when I am likely to ovulate I use cheap OPK strips I bought off amazon. These measure your LH level. You start using them after your period ends. They peak when your body is trying to ovulate. If you test each day and pick up a peak then you should generally ovulate within 12-24 hours or so after this peak. So when you see the peak you should have intercourse. (these don't work well for women with PCOS as they have high levels of LH throughout their cycles).
Monitoring Cervical mucus can also be very handy to know if you're approaching ovulation. When your CM increases your body is trying to ovulate and this is a good time to start having intercourse for conception.
The best way to confirm ovulation for myself is recording BBT and putting it in a chart (I use an ava fertility tracker to record my temp and a free ap called premom to record the temperatures) Once you ovulate it can be confirmed with your temperature rising (this is caused by the progesterone which is released from the corpus luteum which is left over from the follicle that releases the egg).
I read a book called 'Taking Charge of your Fertility'. I found it so useful to explain all these things I was clueless about. Highly recommend.
Hopefully some of the above is useful xx

This is really helpful, thank you! I've started using OPK strips and got a faint line on it today so hopefully that means my LH is rising 🤞 but it might also be on the decline, so I'll start

... tracking it every day! (Fat thumbs hit send too soon 🤣)

It's very stressful but hopefully if I can get into a rhythm with it I can feel more calm about it all... Thank you! Xx

Good luck! It takes a few cycles but once you’ve done it a few times you can begin to feel more confident in tracking things and understanding your body :)

I think I'm feeling impatient as well because I'm 37 in a couple of weeks and feeling like I'm running out of time, but being calm and positive and patient will also help it happen, I've had so many people say it happened for them when they stopped being so worried about it! I'm definitely going to start tracking each day though because I had a faint positive yesterday and a very clear negative this morning so I think I've missed my window this month which is super frustrating because I was working on the 'day 16' assumption the tracker app was telling me 🤦 (I'm day 14)

I totally get the worrying you’re running out of time but you’re taking a really good step in monitoring your fertility and becoming aware of your ovulation dates. I struggled a bit at first as I couldn’t seem to find my peak day. I ended up testing first time in the morning as it was more concentrated. Once it started rising I would then test in the afternoon to try catch the peak. I found out that I was ovulating round day 16-17 so a few days later than the estimated day 14.
I found temp tracking helpful too.
good luck xx
