IVF success/benefits vs natural at aged 38?

Hi everyone,

I'm 38, TTC for about a year. What's not clear to me is IVF success rates Vs rates of pregnancy without for people my age/in my situation. I know it helps young people with certain specific issues but don't want to fork out thousands if it doesn't really boost my chances much. However would do if it would offer very good chances.

I have pcos but have it quite under control with good diet, exercise, am naturally slim. Doctor confirmed I do ovulate, and tests show its quite predictable. Husband seems healthy, same age but needs to do tests. We had our first child 4 years ago in 6 months of ttc without IVF.

Does anyone know comparative success rates? Is IVF helpful in situations like mine?

I think it really depends if you have any issues. One thing that’s become clearer to me in my 2 years of TTC a third is that the past isn’t a predictor of the future as far as fertility goes as I had no problems conceiving my first two.

we have been told a 50-60% chance of taking home a baby after 2 cycles of IVF but I think it’s anyones guess as to whether it will work. I’m 35 so my odds may be slightly higher.

I don’t think we are going to go ahead anyway!

I tried to find this out too but couldn't, I think it's so individual based on yours and your partners results.
I conceived my first child first try at 35 but have been trying 18 months for #2. I've conceived but had 2 miscarriages. I am almost 40, and I never thought I would be in this position after how quick my first child was conceived. We have had all the tests to check and we've no problems, good follicle count and AMH for my age and no problems with OH. So it seems it's unexplained or age related. After the tests we decided to give 3 more months of trying naturally then if not go to IVF which we are about to start. We had a number of discussions around it all. It's a big financial commitment and it did take a number of months for us to work our way through the decision to do tests and then decide when to proceed to IVF.

Thanks everyone. Useful info. I may get more tests but I don't think we'll do IVF. I think my partner would prefer not too and I'm personally worried about the time commitment.
