Hi, I’m looking to connect with anyone using CRGH for ivf. Would be grateful to hear about your experiences as I don’t know many people who are going through this. Thanks

Hi @Elephant369 I am woth CRGH. I've been with them for 1year now. We have been batching embryos and had a target of 4 which we reached a couple of months ago. I am 40, low AMH, low folicle count, high FSH like ridiculously high, kink in the cervix, just had a polyp removed its all been going on lol.

We did a lot of research before we selected a private clinic and CRGH were in my top 2. They are pricey but their success rates and patient reviews is what swung it for us.

How has it been for you?

Elephant369 · 16/12/2022 14:12

Hi@SPR40 I’ve just started with them and not sure what to think. So far the service has been pretty so so, they seem quite distant and don’t come across as a tight organisation. I’ve had to chase a few times.
I’m in my 40s too, had a polyp removal via the NHS, low OR etc. For me it was between them and Create who have a very different approach. I choose the CRGH as my hopes are pinned on their stats and reputation but so far I don’t know. Sounds like you are making good progress though.

@SPR40 forgot to say I’m also batching embryos.

@Elephant369 I started with the NHS and I also had Create on my shortlist. I too chose CRGH for their stats. What I can say I have learnt over the year I have been with them is you have to be in charge of your own treatment, I don't mean that they aren't very good I just mean that I decided that I am in charge, I'm paying a lot of money and have high expectations. I don't have expectations that at the end I will have a baby but I do have expectations that they will provide me with appropriate advice and options and allow me to ask all the questions when I want, how I want because I am paying for this service.

As an exmaple in our last cycle we had been doing mild stim, we decided to try a different protocol at many stages they said we may need to cancel the cycle due to slow response, we chose to carry on, we called up to book in an extra scan and bloods to what they had planned and we managed to catch a premature ovulation risk and triggered because of it. We got 2 blasts from that cycle previously we only got 1 per cycle. Could be a coincidence BUT what was most important was i felt in control so I was less stressed, less damsel in need and more this is my decision and I take the consequences and outcomes. Hope that makes sense.

They really do have great success rates, I have found recently last 2 months they have been exceptionally busy and hard to contact via phone, I have fed this back to them and asked why the quality of service has dropped and they have had illness and less nurses available and I think they prioritised them all into the theatre procedures in that tight time. I had my polypectomy scheduled for 11am and I didn't get in until 3pm...ouchy with a full bladder in the end I emptied it and said that if I had been told it would be 3pm I'd have been able to use the toilet earlier so that's just tough lol.

All in all they have been good overall, I have learnt the quickest responses come through the portal messages...and you can arrange a call back if you want to talk it through.

I'm giving a lot of info here so I hope it's helpful. When we first started with them I did consider leaving as I was frustrated as I thought going private would make it all magical and like a personalised 1 on 1 service so when it didn't happen I was very frustrated. I considered ARGC too as they are fully private with no NHS Patients. But by the 2nd cycle I had got used to how CRGH operate and how to make it work for me.

I mean last cycle one fo the nurses "told me off" for calling the out of hours number with a non emergency and I simply said I pay alot for this treatment and if I have a question and there is an out if hours number available I expect to be able to use it. By the time I'd asked my question and they had answered they agreed it was the right thing to call and apologised.

I think I try ro remember they are just people doing a job BUT I am paying most of my life savings for you to do your job well for me.

What stage are you at with your treatment at the min?

The one thing I absolutely would say if you are not happy now then change. I had 3 cycles available to me on the NHS for free I got half way through my first and it was so unbelievably and I said to myself I can't leave something this kmportant in someone else's hands and we went private. So if you are not sure they are for you, visit a few other too.

Someone ok the forums told me about Care doing something called duostim, it's for our age group as it does 2 egg collections in 1 cycle. The 2nd 5 days after the first to give the tiny folicles time to catch up. If I was still stimming I would absolutely investigate this further with Care. I will cut and paste her results if you are interested but if you give duostim a Google like I did it's really interesting. X

SPR40 · 16/12/2022 14:53

Hiya this is what one of the other forum members said about duostim....

Duostim is where you do two egg collections in one menstrual cycle. In the luteal phase egg collection (second collection of duostim) more eggs are collected due to follicles being leftover from the follicular phase. So after first egg retrieval you start stims 5 days later then do another egg retrieval after 12 days of stims. Here are my stats compared to my failed round of ivf in May:

First failed round of ivf - down regulation and 375 Ovaleap for stims
11 eggs collected
11 mature
7 fertilised
2 day 5 blasts fresh transfer
Failed to implant

Duostim - short protocol with 300ml Ovaleap and 75ml menapur

Follicular Phase
10 eggs collected
10 mature
7 fertilised
4 day 5 blastocysts all great quality (1 hatching)

Luteal phase
17 eggs collected
16 mature
12 fertilised
6 day 5 blasts all great quality

We also changed clinics and protocol when we did duostim as we weren't happy with the first clinic for various reasons. We are so glad we did duostim!

Hi, I've been with CRGH since 2018 and I was successful in 2019. I did 3 rounds of batching and then I transferred the healthiest embryo.

I've come back this year for my second and have noticed a change in the clinic. My consultant told me they had taken on a lot more NHS patients. My husband also mentioned that they had new investors recently which may cause further changes by down the line.

Since restarting treatment this year, whilst I feel it is different, they do still advise you well and they have your best interest at heart. Their new portal system is very helpful with getting quick answers as I never seem to get through to nurses over the phone.

I am yet to see success in my treatment this time around but when I went through treatment 4 years ago, we got to what we wanted in the end so I am still holding hope. As always, my consultant was very honest and I trust her opinion explicitly.

There's a fb group which gives you insight into people's day to day at the clinic.

Hey I’m with CRGH as a NHS PGD patient.

Im 28 and went through my first round of IVF/PGD this summer which resulted in us have poor fertilisation; only one embryo made it to blastocyst stage and it came back that it carried the gene we was trying to avoid but it was chromosomal normal.

I was due to start round 2 in the new financial year as they had allocated all of their NHS funding, but a week ago the clinic emailed to say they could offer us a place to have treatment ASAP which we decided to opt for.

I’m currently waiting on AF to arrive (due Sunday) so that I can go in for an updated ovarian reserve test and collect Provera (down reg) as I will be starting it with this months cycle.

CRGH is the only clinic I have used so I can’t compare it to another clinic, but I must say communication with them is great (via their online Portal). I struggle to get hold of my consultants PA via phone but she’s pretty good at emails.

I hope this helps :)

Hi all,

I am 32F on my first round with CRGH, initially I was really unhappy with the service, always having to chase and my consultant having poor communication/service level.

We changed consultant and the new consultant has been great so far, easy to get hold of, informative and supportive. The nurse team have also been wonderful, it is sometimes hard to get hold of them but generally if you message on the portal or request a call back they get back to you same day - they monitored me very closely during stims and I felt in very good hands resulting in 6 excellent/very good quality embryos.

Overall I’d say im very pleased and would recommend them.

SPR40 · 21/12/2022 18:40

@Elephant369 how are you? Did the posts help? Xx

IVFing84 · 11/01/2023 19:24

Hi @Elephant369
I did one round at CRGH in October and overall I wasn’t very happy. To start with, we spent quite some time choosing the consultant to end up never meeting her in person (just 2 phone calls).
Worst parts for me were the scan appointments as I honestly felt treated like cattle. (I still can’t get over the fact that they don’t have arm rests when they take bloods!) But, above all, the treatment itself was absolutely OTT in the sense that they absolutely pumped me up with meds and I really struggled psychologically during treatment due to side effects.

I have to say tho that the embryologists were absolutely lovely and the day of the transfer was perfect, everyone was amazing and really looked after me.

My treatment didn’t work unfortunately and I’m now doing a round at IVI in Spain.

They are super nice, I see my consultant every time I have a consultation and the treatment so far has been a walk in the park compared to the UK one (much less meds and no side effects) We are including genetic testing this time around and, even then, it’s cheaper that the CRGH.

I wish you the very best on your round, like you say CRGH has an excellent success rate x

MindatWork · 31/01/2023 20:28

@AM08 may I ask which consultants you switched to and from please? We were with Dr Sephadri who was fantastic but I think she’s fully booked at the moment. Would be good to know who to avoid!

We’re about to go back to try for a second child with one of our frozen blastocysts, having had our first dd with them in 2018. I’ve spent all day trying to get hold of them in the phone and via email today and no luck. Not impressed and not a good start!

MindatWork · 31/01/2023 20:30

That should say dr seshadri 🤦‍♀️

AM08 · 31/01/2023 20:30

@MindatWork ah I’m sorry you’ve had such a stressful day with them - sometimes it can be like that - Dr Ali Chami, he’s been brilliant with us!

MindatWork · 31/01/2023 20:35

Ah fantastic that’s who we’re hoping to go with if we can’t get in with our original consultant. Thank you and best of luck with your treatment.- feels scary being back at the beginning again (especially as we swore we were one and done)

AM08 · 31/01/2023 20:39

@MindatWork id really recommend him, we had another consultant to begin with who we just had such an awful time with (apparently she was busy setting up their takeover of city fertility) but he has made things so much easier for us - just super knowledgable and approachable.

I am just a week away from first embryo transfer having done a freeze all round so fingers crossed!

So pleased for you that you got DD and although it’s a hard road to go down again, it’ll be so worth it!

MindatWork · 31/01/2023 20:44

Ohhh best of luck with it all, will keep everything crossed for you 👍🏻

SPR40 · 31/01/2023 22:21

I am also with Dr Ali Al-Chami and agree with the recommendation.

Phones are super busy but you do get through if you can avoid peak times like lunchtime, first thing, end of day etc

Hope all goes well 😊

SPR40 · 31/01/2023 22:22

@MindatWork forgot to tag you in Mt response above x

Bellwells · 01/02/2023 00:30

@AM08 I called just before noon today/yesterday and got through to someone in less than 5min.

Heads up in general the clinic is busy atm I’ve been going in for my EC monitoring scans and people have had to stand as there are no seats. CRGH knew from December that January was going to be busy for them I think patients numbers have drastically and there is a bulk of people going through EC/FET atm.

AM08 · 01/02/2023 08:30

@Bellwells yeah they seem particularly busy at the moment, I tried to rearrange my scan tomorrow and they found it really hard to find me another slot whereas back in Dec/Nov when I did EC it was super easy

Are you doing EC/FET with them now?

Bellwells · 01/02/2023 09:14

@AM08 yeah currently day 8 of stims I’m doing pdg and PGS testing so hopefully the results will be back by the end of Feb

MindatWork · 01/02/2023 13:53

@Bellwells maybe they blocked my number 🤣. We got hold of someone and are booked in with Dr Saab for a consult on Monday - will be interested to see what timeline they give us for moving ahead with an fet.

Best of luck to everyone x

AM08 · 04/02/2023 08:37

@MindatWork so glad you got booked in and are getting the ball rolling. For me it’s been about a 2 month process with FET, not dissimilar to a normal round…

MindatWork · 04/02/2023 09:42

Thanks @AM08 - sounds pretty similar to our last cycle which was fet after an elective freeze all.

Things are slightly complicated this time by the fact I actually have a mirena iud which I need to get removed before we can get cracking, so am desperately trying to get an appt with my gp and may have to get it done privately. Only had it fitted in October, we were 100% sure we were done back then 🤦‍♀️

JandL2020 · 06/02/2023 17:13

I just had to cancel an appointment with them due to a data breach! I got sent someone else details and I’m sure someone out there has my details. Nightmare. I’m going elsewhere! Also took AGES to get through on phone lines to resolve this matter. Eventually spoke with someone who was very professional and took the issue seriously. Wish I had seen this thread earlier re: taking on new patients and NHS. Explains why this happened
