How many rounds of IVF should we buy?

I am trying to work out if we should buy 1 cycle or a pack of 3 cycles for IVF.
There is obviously a cost saving for having 3 but also not a certainty i will need 3...
My AMH is low 3.8 & i have 5/6 follicles - so my ovarian reserve is low & the clinic suggest 3 cycles but i am just trying to understand if they are trying to make money or being realistic - any help would be so appreciated!

Multi cycle packages are often cheaper as alot of clinics charge you upwards of £2000 per frozen transfer, I would check your clinics definition of a round very closely as it was quite late on that I spotted ours and decided to get a two cycle multi package. They say IVF is a numbers game and can't guarantee a first time success, but I figured even if I was successful first try, I wouldn't begrudge the extra 2k I paid.

In the end it was the first round that was successful but was second transfer a frozen one, so in theory didn't lose any money and have another round to use in next three years if needed, and 4 frozen embryos left from first round. I wouldn't have minded losing money though, it took alot of pressure off the first round knowing we had another go where protocols could be tweaked (never know how your body will react). I'm now 9+4 with frozen embaby and saw them wiggling on a scan today:)

Hope yours goes really well, when are you aiming to start?

Just to clarify most multicycle packages include all frozen embryo transfers which would have been charged individually! Someone I'm in a group with went with one round and they didn't get the results their AMH and AF suggested despite the clinic telling them they'd only need one round, so they complained and had theirs converted to a three multicycle package as clinic pushed for one.

I’d advise checking the refund policy as well. Obviously a 3 cycle package works out cheaper than 3 individual cycles if you use all three but we were unsure whether we would want to do three. We worked out that if we only used two of three and got a refund for the third, what we paid for the two we used would work out the same as two individual cycles. So we felt like we had nothing to lose by buying a three cycle package.

As the others have suggested definitely check with the clinic the exact details of the packages they offer. I paid for a 3 cycle IVF/Fet package with Kings which was roughly £10k (plus meds on top) and I was meant to be doing 3 cycles and banking embryos. On the first round I only had 1 egg fertilise normally so decided last minute to put it back on day 3 rather than freezing on day 5. That round worked and once I gave birth I contacted them and they refunded me the difference between the package and paying for 1 round. I would have liked to keep those two rounds for the future but their packages had to be used within a year. All clinics are different but hopefully yours is reasonable.

With low AMH I would recommend a 3 cycle package if you can afford it- takes a bit of the pressure off. Depends how old you are too and whether you want more than 1 child.
Good luck xx

it’s known that the chances are you need more than 1 cycle anyway
mine worked on the second cycle.. and I was young fit and healthy, it was only my partners poor swimmers why we needed ivf.. but the cost was nothing compared to no baby so if I was to waste a cycle because it worked in the first or second I wouldn’t care
good luck

I never went with a clinic either, I went with the NHS straight after my free failed round and it was £4,000 everything included, scans, beta, the lot x
