NHS Funding for IVF of early menopause?

Hi,
i just got told that i will go through menopause before 40 and will need to freeze my eggs & consider IVF to speed things up before i do go into menopause.

Does anyone know if the NHS would fund my IVF? We have only been trying for 3 months and i'm 33 but we dont have time to wait until we have been trying to wait1/2 years. is early menopause considered as an extenuating factor that they consider?

Hi pandapopk,

First of all, I hope you’re feeling ok.

im afraid I don’t know the exact answer to your question but I think it depends on exactly what your diagnosis is. I know nice guidelines say that if tests show that IVF is the only treatment likely to help you get pregnant, you should be referred for IVF straight away.

if it was your GP who gave you the early menopause diagnosis they should be able to refer you to your hospital fertility clinic who can then discuss nhs ivf eligibility with you.

if it was your GP I would say that you should wait to speak to a fertility specialist in any event as they can give you a much more accurate prognosis as to what your chances of getting pregnant are - I’ve found that GPs are not specialists in this area and often just interpret fsh, amh tests.

hope that helps xx
