Micro-tese

Hi

Just wondering if anybody on here has experience with micro-tese?

My DH had a micro-tese last Friday. I'm struggling to understand how the results work. We were given our initial result (that they found sperm) straight after the surgery, which we are obviously so relieved about.

However we are not being told about the quantity and quality of the sperm until an embryologist has done a report which we've been told takes a few weeks.

Just wondered if anybody has experienced this. We are struggling to understand why it would take this long? And what they could be looking at/testing for that would take a few weeks?

Thanks Smile

hi Lemons44, We do have experience with a micro tese but no sperm has been found.
They were planning to call us a month and a half later to tell us what the cause was, but we asked them to call earlier so they call us in ten days.

I have no clue why they are gonna call you later since they did find sperm.
Maybe try to give them a call and ask if they already know?

Hi
My partner had micro tese done in September last year and all we were told was it was successful and they'd collected 12 straws.
I think basically they then defrost a straw for each egg collection and select the best sperm from that for ICSI

Hi,

My husband had micro-tese last year. He was told straight away that they found sperm, then they called him the following day to tell him the quality and quantity of the sperm.

My understanding is that the embryologist has to look at the sperm straight away, before it's frozen, so am surprised that it's going to take a few weeks for them to let you know x

Hi sorry to bring up an old thread. My son had this a few years ago (aged 18) he has Klinefelter Syndrome. We are currently looking into the potential of having the surgery redone. Does anyone know if that is possible? We knew post surgery they recovered 5 sperm 4 of which were swimmers and one static. He had this in 2021 now in a relationship and looking for the potential to get more out

Hi @BabyST

has you son already had the micro tese or was it a normal tese? Was it on one testicle?

I asked our consultant if we could have a second micro tese in future and she said we could but they would check testosterone levels first. The reason is because by removing small parts of the testicle during the micro tese eventually this can impact testosterone levels so they wouldn't want to do too many micro teses incase this causes low testosterone. The reason why I asked if your son had it in only one testicle as my husbands was and we was told they could definitely go into the second testicle next time, if we need a next time.

Are you in the UK? If so I would advise you to have a consultation with Mr Jonathan Ramsay. If you are planning a second micro tese he may be able to suggest medication prior to it to increase the chances of finding sperm. He is the best in his field and many of us in the azoospermia thread on mumsnet have seen him with our husbands.

Thanks to everyone else for your comments on this thread. I just wanted to provide an update for any future people who see this thread as I couldn't find much in micro tese when I searched on MN.

We were told in the end that we had 4 vials of sperm but that they would only know about the quality once each vial is defrosted. We started our first IVF ICSI round last month. They got three eggs from me and found three twitching sperm in one of the thawed vials. All three fertilised. Sadly we lost two embryos but one is transferred into me now. We are only four days past transfer so too soon to know if this round has worked and if this embryo will be viable.

Good luck to anybody else going through this difficult process x

Hi @lemons44 Thank you for your prompt reply. So he had Micro-TESE in a London Hospital under the NHS. We stupidly never asked if it could be done again but we do know his restoring levels are dropping they have advised testosterone treatment but my husband (their dad) has family history of cardiovascular disease and looking at the risk we need to try and balance the risk over benefit (this is him saying this not us as parents). Thank you so much for that I have no idea about the specialist.

I also had no idea there was a azoospermia thread on mumsnet where can I find this please?
