Hi All.

We have mine and my husbands eggs and sperm on freeze a the moment.
After all the blood tests, and scans, we are ready, what a long road this is.
I am on the medication for lining thickening.

They are going to defrost some eggs and sperm on 11th November.
They have asked if we want a day 3 transfer, or a day 5 blastocyst transfer.

They said if going for a day 3, they will put 2 in.
if going for a day 5, they will put 1 in.

What again is the general feeling of 3 day or 5 day.

This is my first attempt at IVF, and I have 13 eggs in the freezer.

I was offered the same choice and ultimately have chosen to go with a 5-day single transfer. I did a lot of reading and the main reasons for my decision were that about half of day-3 will arrest, so waiting until day 5 shows you which ones were never going to be viable. And I am reducing the odds of twins, PLUS, there is clear evidence that transferring two embryos does not increase the chance of pregnancy. I know it's a personal decision but that's how I made mine. Good luck. xx

I'd wait to see how many embryos you have at day 3.

If you have a dozen then go to day 5.

If you only have a couple left then I'd put them back in to give them the best environment to grow.

When you say "defrost some" how many are we talking about ?

If they're going 2 at a time (though I can't see what would be the point of that !) then my decision would depend on how good the embryos look at day 3. If they look great I'd go ahead to day 5, if they're lagging a bit I'd go for a day 3 transfer.

Hi Greenlee,
We misunderstood the clinic jargon.
After another chat, things are crystal clear.

I have 13 eggs frozen.
What they said is, that they thaw out all 13 together.
And then fertilise each, all 13, one with my husbands sperm.
They then see how well, or no they develop and multiply.

I was just 30 when I had my eggs harvested, am 40 now, so feeling optimistic for good outcome.

Out of the 13 , they expect 8 - 9 to fertilise and multiply.
Then by day 3, they said they could expect to loose 3 - 4 of them.
The remaining 5 - 6 would continue to day 5.

At day 5 they would select the best 1, and transfer that.
The remaining 4 - 5 would be back to frozen.
