IVF question

My wife and I are attempting to cost up our future fertility treatment. We'll be using donor sperm. We would like to do egg sharing between the two of us with the view of me carrying, so will be doing IVF.

Obviously one vial of sperm is used for artificial insemination or IUI. But how many eggs could one vial of sperm fertilize with IVF? Is it again just the one, or could it be more?

Thank you.

There’s a bit of info here about iui/ivf/icsi & using donor sperm, it does say it is best to check with your fertility unit re how much they recommend you order, but it might give you an idea to be getting on with -although not uk based.

The amount of sperm straws needed to become pregnant with IVF or other types of fertility treatment differs very much from one person to another. It is possible to become pregnant with IVF treatment by only using 1 sperm straw, but in general we recommend you should expect 5-6 treatment cycles per pregnancy if you are treated at a fertility clinic

This U.K. clinic recommends buying 3-4 at a time just for IUI.

As a reference, we advise patients to buy 3-4 straws at a time as this ensures the donor does get sold out during your treatment and this also saves you the shipping cost per straw. Reserving sperm may incur a charge.

It would probably be best to contact a few clinics you have in mind and ask if they have a brochure, I know Care clinics email you one if you give your details.
