IVF prep

Hello long time reader - haven't posted that much yet but I'd love some advice.

I'm hoping to start IVF in the next two months and I feel underprepared in terms of whether I could be doing more to get my body ready for it.

We've been trying for about two years with one MC last year.

If you've began IVF I wondered if there's any prep you did before hand?

I'm exercising more and taking my vitamins, not sure if there's anything else recommended.

So far I've googled (gah!) and tried searching for social accounts with IVF journeys but also wanted to ask here too!

Thanks!

Hi - I kept up my exercise, eating healthy and took vitamins ( folic acid, coq10, dhea). DHEA was recommended after my failed nhs round as i have low ovarian resrve. I stopped exercising as soon as soon as my ivf started and just walked as much as I could.
No idea if any of it played a part but we were very fortunate for it to work when we went private.
Good luck with everything. Try not to stress and do lots of things that make you happy while you are on this journey!!!

I took folic acid, but D and Ubiquinol.

I gave up alcohol and caffeine( I was addicted to diet soda drinks and knew that I couldn't cope with the headaches if it worked, which it did :) 2nd round)
Currently 12 weeks and cautiously optimistic as 12 week scan is a week today.

I upped protein in my diet and water intake to reduce the chance of OHSS- I had 21 eggs collected 2nd round so glad I did that. ( only 3 made it but it worked :) ) x

My first cycle failed and I'm doing my cycle 2 transfer on Tuesday next week. I've been on Pregnacare Max Conception for about a year now and I have noticed I don't get sick much anymore (I used to get cold/flu/congestion all the time)! So I guess it's doing something?

I tend to walk a lot (treadmill and outside) but I will mostly rest after the transfer. I gave up alcohol and caffeine completely for the last year and have been trying to eat more fruit and drink more water.

I'm praying this cycle works...
Good luck for your cycle @MinBins !

Ah thank you and congratulations - it's reassuring to hear as I'm a little nervous about the journey. I feel the past two years have just taken the hope out of me so I'll try as much to keep positive and continue the exercise and vits.

Congrats @PMAmostofthetime that's great news and I'm excited for you. I know 12 weeks can be a nervous time. Thanks for the advice - that's super helpful.

@Holly05235892 thank you - I'm glad the vitamins are making a difference. I also gave up alcohol, and cut the coffee (Eek I'm finding it hard to give up my tea - but cut to one a day) and fingers crossed things work for us.

My first appointment for the med instructions is early October. Still feel like I'm not fully prepped but I think it's mostly nervousness!

Hope all goes well for you too - and thanks for the advice x

@MinBins Thank you! By the way have you considered decaffeinated tea? That's what I drink now so I can still fool myself into thinking I'm getting the tea "fix"! 😋

MinBins · 23/09/2022 13:08

@Holly05235892 Ooh I tend to make chai with loose tea, I'm gonna be on the lookout for decaf loose tea - that's a good shout! Thank you.

No problem. It was a 4 year journey for us and it feels like I've lost most of my 30s to this! I also cut out caffeine but only when it came to embryo transfer. Honestly wishing you lots of luck. :)

just continue taking care of yourself physically and mentally! avoid alcohol and everything considered "unhealthy" and you should be good to go!
xx
