Blocked tube after 2 ectopics

Hi, I was wondering if anyone had gone through anything similar and could give me some advice please?
i suffered two ectopic pregnancies in 2020 and have been ttc since. I had a hsg two weeks ago and found that my left tube is completely blocked and needs removing.
i have pain on my left more regular than not and I am on a waiting list of approx 6months to have this removed. 1st question… is pain normal?
also, my consultant has told us to continue to try in the meantime but also in the same conversation told me my chances of a successful pregnancy will be higher once removed as the fluid in the tubes can prevent implantation if it goes in the womb… so would it be better to wait until after the removal to try? Plus if I have pain now, if I get pregnant successfully wouldn’t a pregnancy cause pain and on the left tube?

i have also read on here that once removed couples are expected to then try again for 3 years before being put forward for IVF, is this true?
thanks in advance :)

Hi there

Were your ectopics in the same tube? The risk of another increases significantly each time you have one so the chances of you having a third when you still have both tubes in place is unfortunately very high

The pain is it around ovulation time? Was this the side you had your ectopics?

If you do have a successful pregnancy with the tubes still there then you may experience pain - depends really - my ectopics were chased by scar tissue and adhesions so I did have pain as pregnancy progressed as everything stretched/moved

Finally yes the clock resets basically as having an ectopic is classed as getting pregnant for the purposes of infertility referrral timelines but depends on your specific local trust guidelines as most say 12 months to 24 months if you are under age 35 or 6 months if you are over 35

@toooldtodate thank you so much for your reply.

well the thing is the ectopics were never found both times unfortunately. The pain on the ectopics were on the left but the only ‘mass’ they saw both times were on my right ovary but they did say that could just be a cyst. On any scan I’ve ever had even from being young they have never been able to see my left ovary but have always said it’s nothing to worry about it happens and if anything worrying was there it would show up. so the drs and patient in me thinks the ectopics were on the left but they just couldn’t see them.

from what my consultant said the tube is blocked with some fluid and really swollen so I’m not sure if this changes anything.

the pain is just in waves really throughout my cycle and worse when i am ovulating or due to come on.

that’s really sad to hear that the clock resets I’m nearly 33 so the clocks ticking anyway but I am hopeful as soon as it’s removed my chances are increased. My first ectopic I did get caught after my first cycle my biggest worry now is that I haven’t got caught since November 2020, but hoping this is down to the left tube.

thank you ☺️
