Any point seeing GP?

We have been TTC our second child for a year now with no BFP whatsoever, so sadly looking to seek help now. We're planning to go private to get a fertility MOT, I can't deal with ridiculous NHS waiting lists right now. I feel like we should see the GP as a first port of call but is there any point in doing that? Will the GP be able to do anything other than refer us for investigations, which we will do privately anyway?

In my experience GP just did blood tests on the wrong cycle days, and referred us for the usual NHS tests. Because of the semen analysis referral we found we had male factor infertility but we decided to go private to skip the waiting time on NHS, and I'm here now on day 8 of stims for an ICSI cycle while I'm still in the referral stage for IVF with NHS, husband needs one more test to tick the boxes and then we get referred for funding to CCG, and then consultant said about 4 months to IVF after that. Good luck on your journey!

If you already have a child then your unlikely to get any treatment on the NHS so you're probably best going private as you say and avoid waiting times.

Assume you've checked your local CCG criteria for funded fertility treatment? There are a few areas in the country which do fund some treatment for those who already have a child. Worth checking if you haven't. Either way you will probably find your GP willing to do some basic testing so it's probably worth seeing them regardless.
