Hi all,
So I was prescribed clomid this summer ( I don't ovulate , suspected pcos due to high androgens and irregular periods ) this was prescribed at my local hospital with nhs consultant . However, they prescribed clomid before my husband had a semen analysis results come back , and today he got his results from his second test to confirm the first was accurate and they indeed are not good . Low sperm count and high abnormality. 98%abnormality it said on paper. Sperm count when washed was only 5mil . Half are mobile and half are not moving.
The thing is should we be taking clomid if his count is so low and also such high abnormality?
We're just seeing an nhs consultant , gynaecologist , shes not a fertility specialist and I'm wondering if we should be pushing to see a specialist considering his results ?
I don't know if she even looked at his first batch of results or not but it just seems strange to waste time on clomid if his sperm is so poor . Shouldn't we be moved onto more advanced treatment ?
Is it normal that they would still try clomid? I've been prescribed 6 months of clomid and I'm 37 .really interested in hearing from anyone in similar situation

A few Qs:

  1. are you eligible for NHS fertility intervention in your healthboard/area. In mine unfortunately you would not be. If no, there is no point in asking for a referral. If yes, I would be asking for referral right now so you don't age out, outlining your diagnoses/assessment results
  2. if you are not eligible, can you afford private?
  3. does your husband eat well, limit drinking, take conception vitamins? Start all now if not. There are some supplements specifically that may help his issues.

Hi,

my husband case he is 29 he had very very low count 0.5M/ml and we were recommended mTese which unfortunately didn’t work for us even he had sperms in the SA with the time they decreased. I asked the urologist for a treatment before the operation but he said nothing is proved so we didn’t try anything and we regret not trying anything before because it might have worked and made a difference. I regret so much not trying clomid for my husband before but we are trying it now, I also read that Fertilaid works as well it has very nice reviews in Amazon. I think is always worth the try, there is people with low coins that tried clomid and got pregnant or saw a big difference in the sperm count! everywhere it says it works for some and it doesn’t for a few but from our personal experience I would say try all that is in your hands. I am positive you will have your BFP soon 🥰 we will do a SA for my husband in 3 months to see if clomid works, he is also taking Fertilaid supplements count boost and motility ones as well, will keep you updated. Good luck!!
