Upcoming IVF but busy months ahead - can we delay the start?

I have an upcoming initial appointment for NHS IVF.

Our diaries are empty for August and September apart from - as luck would have it - two long weekends away which will fall over my ovulation on each month.

The weekends can’t be cancelled or changed (eg I am maid of honour at one of them!).

How receptive would a clinic be, if I asked if we could postpone our first treatment cycle until October?

@Decaffe in my experience they’ll be totally fine with delaying. I’m not sure where you are in the process ie have you had your first consultation to agree your ivf treatment plan or your nurses planning appointment to show you how to administer meds etc? If not, I’d def go ahead and get these done, you might find they ask you to do other tests etc and you wouldn’t start treatment until October anyway. In my nhs they asked me at my nurses appointment which month I’d ideally like to have treatment and then they checked what availability they had. I then had to call on the first day of my cycle in order to actually get going with it. Good luck and enjoy your couple of months pre treatment xx

Hi @Agapanthus13 , thank you for replying. We have both had all the NHS tests (which have come back fine) and I have a further scan booked in at the IVF clinic next week. They want me to take along all our test results then.

I am imagining from what they have told us that the NHS tests are still 'in date,' but yes it's a good point that they might want us to do some more.

That all sounds ok then! Smile

@Decaffe it doesn't matter when ovulation is due as they completely take over your cycle with drugs. I had to take drugs to delay my period, then you have to do stims, then they give you other drugs to stop ovulation while the follicles are growing. I'd go along to the appointment and explain and see what they say.
