Fertility / IVF clinic

Hi - I'm not sure if this is the right place to post and I'm sorry if it's not but I'm desperate.

We have had 5 losses in the last year. I can get pregnant but I can't stay pregnant and it seems the eggs being fertilised are due to chromosome issues. One we had tested and that was a chromosome issue and I assume the other losses are due to chromosome issues too otherwise why did I miscarry?

I'm tempted to look into ivf with a view to testing the embryos before implanting. We cannot get NHS funding due to an existing child.

How do I go about finding a clinic to help? I found one but they cannot give me any information - they just want me to pay £250 for a consultation to "see" if they can help. I don't want to pay that money only for them to say they can't help because I can get pregnant (even though I can't stay pregnant).

Time is running out as I'm nearly 40 so I could keep trying and hope for the best but I'm thinking it might turn out better if we can get embryos tested before implanting. I'm also scared of paying all the money only to get bad embryos or for it not to work.

I went to an IVF clinic after 5 losses and an ectopic and basically feeling fobbed off by the NHS recurrent miscarriage clinic. I didn't have to pay the consolation fee though - look for open evenings which offer a free 1-2-1 .
It's not an easy road though and you can fall down a rabbit hole - we ended up spending £35k over 5 rounds to have success.

I did one round with PGS testing and had awful results - no normals - I decided not to test my embryos again and had twins on the next transfer so I'm pretty sceptical of it now. In the UK you can't transfer abnormals so they have to be destroyed - something to bare in mind - my clinic agreed to transfer to a mosaic but many won't.

I am sorry for your losses x

250 just to see you? The clinic I used had a free consultation and you can do it online! That's a high fee just for a first consultation...

Yeah they did say there was a free 30 minute meeting but when she called all she said was "why don't I book you in to see a consultant and that's £250"

I'm not sure what it is I need because I can get pregnant it just doesn't stick around for long. I don't want to spend £250 only to be told there's nothing they can help with.

If IVF is suitable then fine, but we will need a few months to save up for that. And also I want to know how likely it is to work for us.

I think I've decided to give up today. I just can't do this anymore.

I have the same issue as you - can get pg but never get past 6 weeks. Ten losses. I am doing IVF with pgta chromosome testing. On cusp of 40. It has shown us that it is mainly egg quality although a bit of sperm dna fragmentation - meaning we don’t get many embryos past day 5 of culturing. Round 1 - 6 fertilised, got 1 abnormal embryo, protocol tweaked for round 2 and 4 fert, 1 normal and 1 mosaic. Just done round 3, 2 embryos again, waiting on testing. We are banking a few in case I also have immune issues - autoimmune stuff and raised nk cells are a factor too for me - I got more success taking steroids during ivf as well as human growth hormone. We will do a bunch of testing before putting anything back in - endemeTRIO etc.

Anyway, IVF can help with recurrent loss, and give you greater chance of finding a good quality egg out of the extra ones you produce as a result of stims. Especially with pgta, My clinic says 60-70% chance of success with a transfer of tested normal embryo - it def cuts down the mc risk but does not eliminate it. Noone can fix your eggs if age etc is a factor hut I do believe supplements and new protocol has made a difference - read ‘it starts with the egg’.

Thank you

I have read that book, I have PCOS as well as the recurrent miscarriage so I noted the supplements down and the list was so long it seemed like I was taking too much. My consultant won't see me anymore. Just had one set of bloods which showed a clotting issue and I've been sent on my way. I don't want to take aload of supplements without some medical guidance first.

I think right now IVF is just too expensive for us so we need to call it a day and accept life for what it is.
