Hi,

Not sure if anybody can help me here, I recently had some sperm test results but the doctors are so busy nobody can phone me for over 3 weeks.
Basically from what I can gather my results are normal apart from Morphology - 2%

From what I’ve read some studies are saying that basically I would need to have IVF with my partner?

This is not really my area of expertise, but it looks to me like the only result that is concerning is the morphology. Before IVF, look into having an IUI done instead, which is much easier and less expensive.

By the way, if this is your first semen analysis you may want to get retested. The results can vary considerably from one sample to the next.

I got pregnant with my first child as a result of an IUI. It's really quick and easy and often effective if there's an issue of suboptimal male fertility. The sperm are "washed" and then concentrated to improve the odds.

Ok, yes that was my first sample.
I’ve been really worried that I won’t be able to have a child looking at those results.
I’ll wait to see what the doctors says.

Thank you

Hi, we have been through the same with almost the same numbers (morphology of 2%, then 3%, then 1% doing the tests three months apart) and same sperm numbers.

Basically we were told as partner's numbers are high it's not concerning. If 2% of 230 million sperm are healthy then that's 4.6 million sperm per ejaculate. If it was 2% of say 2 million sperm then you'd likely have issues.

That being said there's more to it than just morphology. DNA fragmentation is an issue. As we ended up having 3 miscarriages in 11 months (hopefully just unlucky) we are now doing ICSI IVF. But the general consensus from 3 fertility doctors originally was just to keep trying. Conception might be slower but can happen naturally.

So IVF would need to look at a number of factors - the age of the eggs of your female partner or donor, your DNA sperm frag and how long you've been trying to conceive/whether you've had issues or miscarriages.

Hope that helps.

Hi @Man2017 - I agree with the above. High numbers really help if you've got low morphology ... however, it's the question of how long is a piece of string... you could be trying a while unless you actively try to change the morphology in the meantime and set a time when you move to IVF, probably with ICSI if your morphology is still low.

My OH increased his morphology from 0 to 9% pretty quickly. I think the biggest factors were:
2 sachets Proxeed a day
200 mg pycnogenol
200 ubiquol
No tight boxers

We have low numbers so are not pregnant yet but the consultant is really pleased with the increase in morphology and explained it is the easiest to address so you've got a really good chance of getting that up within the next 3 months.

I'd also recommend getting checked for a varicocele just incase.

Hope that helps.

Ok thank you so much, I haven’t slept much and woke up worrying about it but hopefully I can improve my morphology like your OH.
I think the rest of my numbers seem pretty good.

I really do appreciate your feedback!
ill look up those items you mentioned.
