AMH level nearly halved in one year. Age 26 with very low AMH

My worst fear came true... My AMH has practically halved in the space of one year. In May 2021 when I was 25 it was 9.2pmol, and now it's 5pmol at the age of 26.

I am desperately in need of advice/reassurance/success stories. I'm terrified of going into menopause in the next few years when I'm only in my mid20s.

We are on waiting list for NHS IVF as we have been TTC for 2.5 years so far. Not sure if I should abandon ship and just go private urgently or if that's too drastic?

Hydration can seriously affect results, or using different labs
Retesting can be a good idea

Amh has to drop to 0.2 and at that point and it takes 5 ish years for menopause to be complete (on average)
Premenopause (in which ovulation is erratic) comes first
My amh was 2.4 18 months ago and I'm still ovulating every cycle
chill out

@acaciabluebell please check your CCG's criteria for funding. Unfortunately the AMH cut off in my area was 5.8 pmol so after much waiting I found out I wasn't eligible for NHS treatment and had to go private anyway. I wish I'd known about this criteria sooner.

Thanks @IndigoNC appreciate your comment! I will check with my clinic if they have an AMH cut off x

Hi @acaciabluebell
I realise this post is old but I wondered if you had any updates? I’m older than you (34) but a year ago my amh was around the 12 mark and now it’s at the 5 mark which is over halved. Seems insane and no one can explain how this could happen. So I was curious if you had any more progress.

I wouldn't get so hung up on amh. It's just a number and can fluctuate. I've seen many women with low amh and they had successful pregnancies. The important thing is age , rather than amh and at 34 you should still have fairly decent egg quality.
I actually have a very high amh 62 and did absolutely awful in my ivf cycle. I was a very poor responder .
If your concerned get an afc count and worry less about amh

Hi @Blossomofhope so I had my AMH repeated the following week and it went up from 5 to 6.6, despite doctors telling me AMH can never change. AFC (number of follicles) is a much better indicator, in my case, my AFC went from 15 in 2021 to 10 in 2022. So it dropped, but not halved.

I started my IVF cycle in August 2022, got 9 eggs and ended up with one embryo which is now my 6 week old daughter 😊

Oh that’s wonderful @acaciabluebell - congratulations! And thank you for responding.

My amh dropped from 4.1 to 2.2 in less than a year. I opted to go down the duo stim route with pgta (expensive but the right option for me as I was obviously time pressured) and I'm currently 29 weeks pregnant. Don't give up hope xx
