PGT-A success rates

Hi, I’m hoping someone can help. Am I right in thinking the average number of embryos that could be euploid following PGT-A is 1 in 2? I’m sure I’ve read this somewhere but can’t find the link.

I also think I should stop doing research…but old habits die hard!

It depends on age but it’s highly individual. I think the general statistics are around 1 in 2 between 30 and 35 and around 1 in 3 by the time you get to your late 30’s.

I just did a few rounds with PGT-A testing and around 2/3 of my blasts were euploid. The doctor said that was better than they would expect for someone my age (38). That said my fertility issues are mainly to do with recurrent miscarriage and carrying a pregnancy rather than embryo development. My AMH has always been good and my husband has no sperm issues.

Thanks for sharing @Ifitistobesaid. It helps to manage my expectations a little.

I’m also 38 with a decent AMH and history of recurrent miscarriage. My OH had sperm fragmentation issues which were treated with antibiotics so my hope is that we can now overcome some of the initial hurdles and have some healthy embryos on ice in a few weeks. Next step is hystoroscopy with endometrio testing plus immune testing.

Sounds like you’ve had some good news. What’s next? Wishing you luck 💛

@MyEasterEggs oh snap, sounds like we have a similar history. I had immune testing done in late 2020 and have high natural killer cells which could be a contributing factor to my miscarriages. I have an appointment with my miscarriage specialist in a few weeks so will discuss the transfer protocol with him and see if he recommends repeating or undergoing any additional tests. I also have mild adenomyosis which was discovered during my IVF rounds so my IVF clinic suggested a month of down regulation before transfer. They don’t think adenomyosis is behind the miscarriages but I will try anything at this point.

MyEasterEggs · 19/04/2022 12:23

@IfitistobesaidIf I get it. I’m prepared to do whatever it takes at this point.

I had immune testing done in 2018 and was just in the positive range (and wary of the treatment) so spent six months working on my health and then tested negative. I definitely have some regrets and often look back and wonder ‘what if’. Here I am four years later doing anything and everything!

Will you be given some anti inflammatory treatment for the adenomyosis?

@MyEasterEggs that’s interesting that you were able to bring it down naturally. For the adenomyosis they recommend down regulating with zoladex which I am nervous about as I heard it has brutal side effects. That combined with the immune meds will be a lot to take. I have mild symptoms of PCOS too so will probably go back on metformin which is tough too.

I feel so lucky to have euploid embryos but wish I could feel confident about bringing them to term. When are you expecting your PGT-A results?

MyEasterEggs · 19/04/2022 13:02

I have mild PCOS too. Are we living parallel lives?!

What Metformin symptoms have you had? I’m on 500mg twice a day and it’s been okay but my thyroid health is poor again so fiddling with levothyroxine to get TSH down is the current challenge. My thyroid health was fine before we started experiencing fertility problems.

We had 4 embryos biopsied and frozen this morning and may have 2-3 more by tomorrow, hence I’m overthinking the figures. I think the turnaround is usually 2 weeks?

And I understand your fears @Ifitistobesaid. “It only takes one” doesn’t carry quite the same level of optimism when you’ve also struggled to carry babies. But if we can do the tests and the treatment then we can only hope 💛

@MyEasterEggs wow we are twinning! I found metformin really tough on my digestion. I came off it and took inofolic alpha instead as that’s supposed to be similar but has no side effects. I will go back on metformin for transfer if they think it will help though.

4 embryos is excellent. Hope you get some tomorrow too. They tested all mine at the end of my three rounds and it took about a month to get the results.

Keeping my fingers crossed for us both.

MyEasterEggs · 22/04/2022 18:28

That’s interesting @Ifitistobesaid as I’m on Inofolic and Metformin. I think I’m going to go over all my medication with the clinic and nutritionist again though as it feels a little OTT.

We managed to biopsy seven embryos in the end so I’m feeling quite optimistic. Decided to delay hystroscopy and endometrio by a cycle though as I need a bit of a break from it all.

@MyEasterEggs 7 blasts from one cycle is fantastic. You are in a very strong position to get some euploids.

A break is a great idea, especially when you know you have some good embryos in the bank. Ride high on this win for awhile! We’re on a bit of a break until I see my consultant and it’s felt really restorative after the intense emotions of IVF. I feel almost normal again.

MyEasterEggs · 23/04/2022 09:29

I really hope so @Ifitistobesaid 🤞🏻

Will keep you posted and good luck with your next steps too!
