Hi, I’m 32, husband 36. Been trying for 18 months.

I’ve had day 21 bloods- showed I ovulated and all fine. Also POS using CBD OPKs and get flashing then static smiley every month.

Had abdominal scan, ovaries etc all normal.

Had AMH test and got 20 which I believe is also fine for age?

Husband has had semen analysis and all normal.

Have tried: having sex every single day, having sex every other day, sperm meets egg plan.

Not had even a sniff of a pregnancy. I don’t know what to do next? We have a referral to fertility clinic on NHS coming up. What can I expect? I just want to be pregnant now. We are happy to pay whatever we need to have a baby. What should the next step be? Do we need IVF?

@fl1pfl0p87 heyyy ! Sorry you Are in this shit position ! Sad first thing I would do is check if your tubes are open because if they age blocked then egg can’t travel lot into uterus , it’s Hysterosalpingography, or HSG, is an X-ray test to outline the internal shape of the uterus and show whether the fallopian tubes are blocked.
A normal scan cannot see this , so please do this before anything else xxxx have you had your thyroid checked ?
If you have referral to fertility clinic then they will check this so that’s good xx they won’t do ivf before they check what the reason so behind you not getting pregnant , xx good luck

I’ve had thyroid checked in bloods and all good. Will they do the HSG as part of my fertility referral? Or can I book that privately now?

@fl1pfl0p87 hey , yes they will check the tubes as part of fertility testing ! But I think if you want private and a lot faster then I think it costs about £450 or something like this but I think you need referral letter from your gp before they do it private for you ! This is what I have heard ?
Type in google , private hsg , and you can have a look , I think some places don’t need refferal letter ? You can always email them and ask if you find a place where they do this ? 😊
If your tubes are blocked then it’s straight to ivf but if they are not then they give you chlomid for ovulation to make more eggs . My friend did this 😊 and she got pregnant or if not chlomid then Intrauterine insemination (IUI) is a fertility treatment that involves directly inserting sperm into a woman's womb.

Thanks. I’m wondering how long it would take to progress on NHS and if I should just pay and do it all privately

@fl1pfl0p87 do you have appoitment letter for fertility clinic already ! Or are you waiting on the list still ? It depends where you live . When I got referred , it took like 3 months to get first appoitment , but I know people who live in different city and it took them like 6 months or even 1 year .
If you don’t have the appoitment letter then I would go private ? Can I ask how old are you ? If I was young I’d wait but if you’re older I’d go private . Also depends if you have money to spend to go private ? Obviously private is soo much faster , no waiting really .
But if you’re young and just desperate to get pregnant now and have money I’d go private :)
It really all depends how long you willling to wait .
Ask me anything xx

ShareLove · 09/04/2022 17:24

Oh sorry just seen you’re 32, then I’d defenetly go private ,because you don’t know what the problem is and how long it will take you to get pregnant after the problem has been found : x

ShareLove · 09/04/2022 17:25

I am 30 myself and I already feel old and desperate and still don’t have a baby yet Sad I wish I started all this fertility thing a lot lot earlier I regret not starting earlier !

ShareLove · 09/04/2022 17:33

There is a private hospital called spire healthcare , they do private fertility investigations x I don’t know if there is one near where you live ? X there are places all over uk you can check on google :)

fl1pfl0p87 · 09/04/2022 17:43

I’ve had a lot of fertility investigations (in my initial post) just not the HSG/HyCoSy.

I’m looking for advice as to what next. As I’ve said, we will spend whatever we need to.

Anyone?

@fl1pfl0p87 yes I thing the hsg/hycosy is exactly what you need to start with Smile you want to know if your tubes are blocked or not and that would explain a lot for you , if they are not blocked then you know it’s something else and if they are blocked then you’ll also know that this was the reason why you didn’t convince yet x

I'd suggest as a first step, finding out what the waiting times are for an initial assessment appointment at your local NHS service, if you've been referred there. If you then feel able to wait for that, they'll take a history and discuss next steps including investigations and potential treatment options. Again, you can ask for an idea of waiting times for these. If at any point you feel that the wait is too much, you can take the information already gathered and go private if that'll speed things up.

It may not feel like it, but at 32 you do still have time on your side - your egg quality and reserves are likely to be good. If you're wanting reassurance about this, or if you're worried there could be an issue, you could contact a private clinic for another assessment of your current fertility at any time - there usually isn't much of a wait for these (I think I waited 1-2 weeks, due to clinic days and my work commitments not aligning sooner).

Apart from that hycosy to check the tubes, there is not much else the nhs would check before moving into ivf.
How long do you have to try for in your ccg and how many cycles do you get?

Dochas12111 · 10/04/2022 09:55

I agree with @ShareLove the important one to get done now is check tubes are open.

fl1pfl0p87 · 10/04/2022 11:04

My first fertility referral appointment is for 10th May, having been referred in January. So doesn’t look good for waiting times for future things…I wasn’t so concerned in Jan and thought oh well it’ll probably have happened by then but here I am still.

Can’t find anywhere in London that does the HyCoSy?! Trying to book one

All the main fertility clinics will do them - have a look at the clinics online and see which one/ones you think would be a good fit for you, and give them a call to discuss?

5 months for an initial assessment appointment does feel a long wait, but from today it's only a few weeks away. Even if you think you'll go private for investigations and any treatment, it might well still be worth going to the NHS appointment and seeing what they say - different clinicians can have different perspectives.
