Antibiotics around the time of transfer

I know some of you are quite knowledgeable so wanted to post for advice.

This is the situation: due to have a transfer on Wednesday (very first transfer ever) and since Saturday I’ve had worse asthma than usual and a cough. Based on symptoms the GP wants me to take amoxicillin and the IVF clinic is fine with that.

My concerns are that I’ll kill off all my good bacteria, which I’ve been taking probiotics for since the end of stims which were causing me thrush.

Do any of you have experiences of transfers whilst on antibiotics? Have you had antibiotics and been fine/had successful IVF? I’m thinking I should wait another day to take them so I don’t have thrush return in time for the transfer. Experiences of antibiotics at and around transfer would be appreciated!

Just to add LFTs currently negative but I will continue taking them.

Some clinics prescribe antibiotics as routine after egg collection (and before fresh transfer) to prevent infections from the egg collection. This is the case with ABC/Create.

You can take a specific probiotic by Optibac for antibiotic use. Might be able to grab it on Amazon or from Boots:

You could also increase your intake of fermented foods. I try to have a tbsp of sauerkraut and kimchi each day and the odd mug of miso. Or to keep it simple you could try drinking a glass of kefir water or kombucha each day?

And maybe add some prebiotic foods into your diet like garlic, onions, peas, lentils. Easiest way to get all of this in is with a giant batch of pea and green lentil soup to eat each day. Oats are a good choice for breakfast but leave out sugar as that thrives on bad bacteria! You could throw in some berries and almond butter. Adding raw, unpasteurised apple cider vinegar to salads is also helpful.

I’ve had to do a similar thing so just passing on what worked for me as I don’t always react well to antibiotics. Hopefully it’s not overwhelming!
