MYO inositol? Irregular periods?? HELP!

I’m unsure whether I have pcos or just really bad luck. It took me 7 months ttc for my daughter who’s now 17 months, ttc #2 since she was 12 months and my periods have become really irregular since ttc! From a 32 day cycle to anywhere between 35-52 day cycle.

It’s really frustrating me & getting me down but doctor won’t help until my bmi is 30 or lower.

I read about myo inositol and wondered if anyone had any stories of it working without pcos or just irregular periods??

Also why has my period become irregular since ttc?

It could well be that PCOS is the root cause here; it is a common cause of irregular cycles. Weight as well should not be a barrier to receiving treatment; I would consider a second opinion here.

According to the International PCOS Network, inositol (in any form) should be considered an experimental therapy in PCOS, “as this agent is freely available as a nutritional supplement, at low to moderate cost and appears to have a limited side effect profile, it may warrant consideration for use despite limited and low quality evidence. As with other supplements or complementary therapies, women taking this agent are encouraged to advise their health care team.

Can you just develop pcos out of anywhere?? My doctors moody he just says when people lose enough weight their cycles return back to normal so unless my bmi is 30 or below there’s no reason for ‘intervention’ as he called it

You need to find another doctor; what sort of doctor is this?. Its no point in trying to talk to someone who is not listening to you.

I would keep trying with the other GP surgeries. Its absolutely no point in staying with a unhelpful GP practice.

Myo -inositol is worth a try imo, if your GP isn't being helpful enough to order you hormonal tests to check for PCOS - which can be treated with other medication too (I'm surprised your GP is refusing, given your symptoms). From what I've read Myo -inositol can help with insulin resistance which can be a cause of irregular periods and weight gain - even if you have no other PCOS type symptoms such as acne, head hair loss, excess body hair growth etc.

I've taken Myo for years throughout IVF and now pregnancy as it was recommended to me by a fertility nurse (although I do have PCOS). It's said to be a member of the B vitamin family (so naturally occurring in smaller amounts in food) - so I personally can't see the harm in trying it for at least 3 months to see if it helps with your cycle and weight? Dose for fertility is 4g a day, usually split into two with the powder dissolved in juice or similar. It's often taken alongside folic acid/folate.

I know this post is a couple of years old but I just wanted to say for future readers that I have PCOS and been TTC for 7 years, I’ve had clomid and IVF and 3 miscarriages. My periods have always been very sporadic as in 30-100+ days. Since my last IVF miscarriage in July this year I started taking Myo inositol from Free Soul and my cycles are now 39 days on the dot and I’m ovulating naturally for the first time ever. I’ve just bought the OvuSense vaginal thermometer to track ovulation and praying that this helps me indicate ovulation and have hope that I may become pregnant naturally as I have done before.

Myo inositol has definitely helped me! My BMI is around 28 I’m in the UK and a size 10/12.
