Evening all,
My husband and I are currently on our fourth round of ivf (first ICSI) unexplained fertility , both in early 30s turning to IVF after multiple second trimester losses (we've now eliminated the risk that took these pregnancies)
Fresh cycle failed, first FET ended in miscarriage at 9 weeks and third FET failed all single embryos.
We're now at a new clinic and are desperate to do something different but cannot reach a decision on double or single transfer. Consultant doesn't seem bothered with either and our transfer is on Saturday so we need a decision by then. Would anyone mind sharing their double transfer stories please? Good or bad all are welcome

All my ICSI transfers & subsequent FETs were double embryo transfers.

I have one DC who started off as a twin pregnancy.
Another twin pregnancy ended up as MC
A double ET resulted in a Single pregnancy that ended up as MC
4 negative attempts with double ET.

I guess it’s either double the joy or double the heartache and only you can decide how many to put back.

I have a friend who had twin ICSI babies, it was really hard work in the early years but such a joy for her to have her two DC.

I also have a friend who had single ET & had a baby then, 2 years later, another single FET and again had a baby so she also gets double the joy but from single ET.

Wishing you lots of luck on your fertility journey Flowers

I have twins via IVF and honestly it's bloody amazing and I'd do it all again tomorrow if I could......but here's the cons

  • you could just as well end up with triplets from a double transfer as twins. Only do it if you are prepared mentally physically and financially for multiples
  • I was fit and healthy before my twin pregnancy but found it brutal and was pretty much on bed rest from 20 weeks - couldn't stand or walk far. Massive bleeds from 28 weeks and told to prepare to let one go to save the other. All nearly died at 34 weeks.
There is no getting away from fact carrying multiples is high risk
  • most twin mums I know who hadn't had kids before found being a twin mum horrendously hard work and never had any more kids! I have an older child and have found it a breeze but I think that's because I'm more confidant second/third time around
  • the cost! My childcare is £2k a month and that's term time only 😬
  • it is a different mothering experience - I don't get anywhere near the one on one time I had with my eldest
  • life is relentless - pick up put down soothe one then the other feeding changing etc etc

There are pros of course!

  • it's amazing just knowing what you and your body can do
  • it's a privilege watching them grow together
  • it's the best diet I've ever been on! Im in the best shape of my life as don't have time to sit down, eat or sleep and constantly jumping 2 babies about
  • it's great fun 🤩

I have 2 embryos left and I could would do a final double transfer but medically I won't ever be allowed to risk twins again
