IVF on NHS

Hello
Can anyone give me some advice. I had spoken to my GP about getting IVF on NHS which the GP agreed and did a referral. This was in September. I had done two cycles of IUI and was in the process of starting the third IUI when the GP referred me. All three IUI was done privately and unfortunately all 3 IUI was not successful. I had spoken to the private clinic on next steps and we decided to go for IVF privately as I had still not heard anything back from NHS referral. Unfortunately it wasn't successful and now I have finally received a letter from NHS for a consultation for IVF. The NHS referral is from UCL in London and its from Northwest London CCG and I just read online that if you have had IVF privately then I will not eligible for NHS funded IVF. Can anyone confirm if this is true and if there's anything I can do. I have already spent so much money privately.

This link should take you to UCL's IVF criteria, so you can check how your eligibility might be affected. Different CCGs and health boards have different policies, so it might be best to check with them. There may also be room for negotiation if there's been a big delay due to the pandemic.

Sorry OP but yes it is likely true - you'll need to check with your CCG how many NHS rounds they offer but if it is only 1 then no you wouldn't be entitled to any NHS treatment. If it's 2 or 3 rounds then your private round just gets deducted so you'd get 1 or 2

If you only asked for a referral in September i think you jumped the gun massively - it's only January - 3 months - NHS wait lists can be a year or more

I think this can happen but doubtful in Op case as she only requested a referral 3 months ago and has already fitted in a private round in that time so presumably waited only a few weeks

I think the appeal/negotiation only comes into it where you are close to the age cut off and covid delays would take you past the age limit

Sorry, I missed where the referral had been in September. September to January is a pretty short wait in NHS terms. Check with the CCG what their policy is, but if it's only to offer a single round then you probably wouldn't be eligible for NHS IVF.

Only your CCG criteria for fertility treatment will give you the answer. My CCG allows one nhs cycle and up to two private cycles before you lose your funded one. Your CCG will have its own rules.
