Flare Protocol Success

Hi all,

I am due to start a "flare" protocol next month after failing to respond to a short protocol in December. My protocol is Decapeptyl and Pergoveris.

This is likely to be our last try as Pergoveris has cost us a fortune the last couple of months :(

I am looking for "flare" protocol success stories please as I am so anxious ....!

TIA x

Hi. Yes. Thanks for your reply. I’m doing norethisterone for day 14-25 with estrogen priming. Then starting buserelin on day 1 of period which will be two days before I start stimming. The buserelin will be the spray which will be 4 times a day until I trigger. It seems a lot of buserelin. It’s supposed to stimulate ovaries because it’s occurring just before stims. I’m on 225iu meriofert and 225iu fostimon.

I’m pleased it worked for you and you found a difference in egg quality. Do you remember what you used for the trigger? I was on dual trigger with the short cetrotide protocol but with the flare I’ll be on just Gonasi. Thanks

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 05/03/2022 13:10

I actually had 3 trigger injections - double Gonasi (2x 5000) and an Ovitrelle 250. My first round I only had the Gonasi. Good luck, hope your round is successful.

Thanks for your message. My consultant said I wouldn’t be able to have dual trigger this time due to using buserelin for flare, so that’s interesting. I know I would be having 10,000iu Gonasi, but I have an egg maturity issue. Do you mind me asking how you got on with your first round just with Gonasi? Was that with the flare? Thanks

My first round was successful in that 3 of my 5 eggs fertilized to 3 day embryos but all were implanted and none took, so I'm not sure what the quality was like. I had no flare that first round either (just the 450 iu menopur). At 40 and with diminishing egg reserve I seem to need the highest doses of all stims to get decent eggs- but other people in the same boat go the opposite route and do very low dose stims and it works for them so who knows?

Good luck to you, I really hope this round is the one that works. Sorry if I won't be around much here anymore - my son has just been born 2 weeks early, so I'm very rarely on the internet at the moment.

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

Congratulations on the birth of your son. Thanks for replying to my messages. Good luck with everything.

I finally got him to eat and sleep, so just wanted to say thanks while I could @2021ivfagain

Its so hard to know what could have made this round finally successful for me (after 6 failed IUI's and 4 previous failed ivf embryos) - was it the buserelin flare? the extra ovitrelle trigger? that I added extra NAC, ALA and probiotic supplements for 3 months this time prior to egg collection? the fact that I happened to be on antibiotics for an unrelated issue for a month before stims so perhaps any bacteria preventing implantation this time were killed off? Or that due to my age, I perhaps just finally got lucky getting a euploid embryo and the others weren't?

All I know is they said the egg quality looked very good this time despite the fact the follicles grew much more slowly (ended up needing to stim for 15 days from what I remember).

So although I'm unfortunately struggling with baby blues hormones right now, I'm so grateful for my boy and accept that after all this, he will very likely be an only child. I do still have 2 "3 day" embryos frozen but it seems incredible and very random luck it finally worked for me, and the chances of that miracle happening again are minute.

But I do hope your luck will perhaps finally be better this time too Flowers

@IamnotwhouthinkIam

Thank you so much for your message. I know what it’s like in the early weeks and days after giving birth. Take care and enjoy those special moments. It does go quickly. My son is 15 months old now.

I’ve taken a lot of supplements too, but the only one I’ve not tried yet is melatonin. I don’t know if you’ve tried it.

I understand about the hormones. I felt a lot like that. I appreciate you messaging me. I wish you all the best.

Hey, sorry I know this is an old post. I just wondered how people got on with a flare protocol 🙏✨ I had tried mild and got 1 egg but it didn’t fertilise, just wondering if I need to push for a different approach xx

@iwoulddoanythingforlove I did the flare and it negatively affected my egg quality. The best round was short protocol With cetrotide but that can cause issues if you have high fsh. I should have done oestrogen priming with it.

My only live birth was from a long protocol I did at 38. I think if you’re under 40 try to ask for long protocol. It’s better for egg quality and it addresses fsh because it turns hormones off so everything starts growing evenly.
