DHEA

Realise DHEA has been posted about a few times on this thread, but hoping my situation is unique enough to warrant another thread.

I have had two failed rounds of mild IVF (produced a few low quality blasts). Moving to standard IVF at LWC and the consultant has advised me to take 75mg DHEA per day up
until I start my cycle in April. Am 36 with no (obvious) fertility issues. I’ve read a lot about DHEA use needing to be carefully monitored. I’ve tested and have normal DHEA-S levels. I’ve ordered the stuff but too scared to start taking it! Why would Dr prescribe it without monitoring? So confused! Your insights would be much appreciated.

I took DHEA on consultant advice, due to age, low AMH and high FSH. I'm not sure if it helped and I didn't have my levels tested but the two embryos we had from that cycle were both successful transfers.

Hi everyone - Today I found out that I have a very low AMH level of 1 at 35yrs old… feeling very upset. Just been looking into Dhea and whether I should try this out. I’ve purchased a medichecks dhea test to find out my levels, but I’m just wondering if it’s common to have low Dhea levels alongside low AMH? I’ve also been told my progesterone levels don’t confirm ovulation so looks like I’m not ovulating every month. I have been pregnant twice in the last 24 months but both have ended in mmc. I’m going to try Clomid for a few months but just wondering if I should go for it and try Dhea too. I’m already taking high dose of ubiquinol.

@HopefulH I'm sorry you've received upsetting news and sorry for your losses 💐. Low AMH doesn't mean you can't conceive and at 35 your egg quality should still be good. So even if you don't produce a lot of eggs you may find that your eggs are mostly healthy.

DHEA is given if you have low levels of free testosterone and DHEA. So you would need to test for those and take it if so. It can correlate to AMH but not necessarily.

Hi@firefly37 please can you tell me what units you are referring to here? I have just had my test back and I am 19.2 umol but a lot of the info I have been reading is in ug (American).

I am 41 with low AMH. I have taken 25mg a day for the last 7 months and have just had my level tested (saliva) and the result was 6.6 which is average for someone of my age. I read that for fertility your DHEA should be similar to that of someone in their 20s which is 13 to 20! So I am still pretty low, am increasing to 50mg for a few weeks before planned retrieval (fingers crossed)

@Mouseorchestra7 @Dreamsofholidays78 @HopefulH @Janefx40 Can anyone advise RE the above? I am really struggling to het to the bottom of this. Not having one unit of measurement is the problem. I know my result (19.2 nmol, I know the advised level is 180ug - but I don't know how to convert. I found a calculator online that puts me at 700, which has to be wrong...

@onewishplease Not to be outing but I think we've already been discussing this on FB albeit I converted the 180. I think 19.1 is 106.7 ug/dl x
