Blocked Fallopian tube

Morning all, has anyone taken steps to unblock their Fallopian tube? If so, did you have this done through laparoscopic surgery? Was it carried out private or Nhs? Any success with fertility since? Thank you!

Are both your tubes blocked?

I have a blocked Fallopian tube but have managed to have 3 kids. Might take a bit longer but entirely possible

Thanks @RogueV that’s really reassuring. Yes, only one tube blocked thankfully, on my dominant ovary. It’s one of a few issues we have. We’ve been ttc 4+yrs (not trying to prevent pregnancy for 7yrs) and about to start another round of egg collection after failed transfer this Xmas. thought we’d try to fix some of the underlying issues to help improve our chances of conceiving naturally 🤞🏻

Hi @Agapanthus13
Probably not the answer you were looking for, but I also have a blocked tube and was advised by both private and NHS gynaecologists that they wouldn't recommend attempting to unblock it. They said any procedure wouldn't necessarily make the tube functional and the risk of an ectopic afterwards would be high. They both thought the best chance was via ivf

I hope you get there one way or another

Hi @Agapanthus13 so I had both my tubes that were blocked with hydrosalpinx & they tried to drain & unblock them & I was told to keep trying but I was high risk of an ectopic pregnancy. I've got so much scar tissue from an emergency operation to removed half my large intestine so it's a right mess! In the end they said before I could be referred for IVF I would have to have them both removed as the fluid (hydrosalpinx) could leak & lose the embryo 🤷🏼‍♀️. I did have this done on the nhs. Wish you the best of luck 🤞

Gosh @Reefy sounds like you went through a rough time with your tubes. Thank you for sharing - did they try to unblock them using laparoscopic surgery? Hope you’ve since had success trying to conceive.

@KatRee may I ask- do you know which part of your tube was blocked? My ivf dr did ask whether we wanted to explore unblocking my tube before our last round of ivf but at the time I said no. I’m hoping it might still be an option for me to explore now. Hope your journey is going well for you now? So many little bumps along the way!

@Agapanthus13 yes they tried doing it laparoscopically unfortunately tho had to cut me open due to all the scar tissue making it awkward & they pieced my bowel but only due to my complications. Not yet but round 3 of IVF coming up soon 🤞

KatRee · 03/01/2022 09:29

@Agapanthus13 That's good they think unblocking might be worth trying.
My blockage is at the end of the tube near the uterus. I think part of the reason they didn't recommend it to me is I'm 37 with relatively low ovarian reserve, so they thought I needed to move quickly and didn't really have time for surgery that might not be successful
Unfortunately I've had two failed fresh transfers so far, but am going to try again

Agapanthus13 · 03/01/2022 18:26

@KatRee sorry to hear of your failed transfers. It’s such a tough journey. Wishing you all the best for your next one! I’m turning 37 this month too but was hoping I can have my tube unblocked alongside my next round. That’s just my thinking though!

@Reefy May I ask- did you have you surgery on NHS and if so, how long the wait was, or, if you had it privately what the cost was? All the best for your next round hopefully ‘3rd time lucky’ rings true for you 🤞🏻

@Agapanthus13 yes it was on the NHS I was told up to a 7 month wait but then Covid hit so was a 15 month wait. I did enquire at having it done privately but said around 6-7k but remember mine was to remove so could be different cost. However when I had it done I did go into a private hospital but it was through the NHS still, I think it was to try & clear some of the backlog as I know the surgeon is very popular. I ended up travelling from Brighton to Guildford for him so may of got it done sooner if had gone to my local hospital who knows.
Yes I hope this will be my time! 🤞
