Hi All, we’re looking to change clinics for our next round of IVF as we’ve moved out of London. Has anyone been to one in Oxford, Reading, Winchester, Basingstoke or similar area? Good / bad, any comments would be greatly appreciated x

We are at Oxford Fertility and have found them to be excellent (both NHS for first child and privately for second child) after a slightly bumpy start. There's no clinic in Reading I don't believe, just a satellite clinic based in one of the private hospitals in Reading. I'd avoid Thames Valley in Maidenhead, not heard good things.

@YouBoggleMyMind that’s really helpful, thank you. May I ask when you it was you had treatment there ie was it recently? Also, did you have to travel to Southampton for some procedures or does everything get carried out in Oxford? Just having a good read on their website.

We used OXRM in Oxford because it's staffed by the group of consultants who also work for the NHS at Oxford University Hospitals, all of whom are incredibly senior and innovative in their field and incredibly lovely. (I have endometriosis so had seen them on the NHS before). I found them to be excellent although egg collection and transfer takes place in Bristol.

No, everything was at Oxford Fertility Clinic. Scans, bloods, egg collection and embryo transfer. We are just about to start our FET cycle with them once my meds come on Wednesday. This is all privately and we started treatment with them in October (prolly would be have been earlier had we not been away).

@YouBoggleMyMind good luck with your FET! Is this for your second child? I meant to say- congrats on your first, that’s lovely to hear you had success. May I ask, did you already have embryos frozen with them of have you done egg collection & freeze all since October? My first cycle was nhs in London and has been extremely delayed (due to Covid) & I’m conscious we need to move 10x faster for our next round as I’m turning 37 this month. I’m just looking at Oxford’s options with Access Fertility, did you explore their multi-cycle packages at all? Sorry, hope you don’t mind all the questions. I think they open again this week so will call & speak to them too, just so helpful to hear of first hand experience.

Hi @girljulian thank you, I hadn’t actually heard of them so really helpful. Looks like they’re linked the Lister in London too which I’ve heard good things about. Will have a bit more of read ably them. Thanks

My DS was conceived with clomid under Oxford Fertility but NHS. I have PCOS.
I did have both letrozole and clomid under the NHS at Royal Berks Hospital for no2 but was unsuccessful so we went back to Oxford Fertility privately. We did a cycle of IVM (in vitro maturation) and got 3 embryos, one was transferred fresh and the other 2 frozen. Sadly the fresh transfer failed and this was late November. Due to Christmas closures and needing some time off to process the failure, we are now starting our FET.

YouBoggleMyMind · 03/01/2022 11:20

IVM isn't covered by Access Fertility but had we done "traditional IVF/IVF with ICSI" we prolly would have looked into it.

@YouBoggleMyMind sorry to hear of your failed transfer. The journey is so tough. All the best for this next transfer 🤞🏻

@YouBoggleMyMind I think we’re going to book in for a consultation with Oxford. Can I ask if there’s any particular consultant you’d recommend /or avoid? Also, have you found the nurses & admin team easy to get hold of during your treatment?

Morning, we had Dr Dorcus Muchiri and Prof Tim Child and both were lovely. We use the The Fertility Partnership portal for most communication but whenever I have called, I've not had to wait to speak with anyone. The nursing team tend to call back later in the day after 3pm due to appointments but if it's been urgent, I've usually had a pretty quick reply. Nikki Turner the Nurse Manager is my go to as she has been there a really long time and has also gone through IVF herself. She looked after me for scans, egg collection and did my embryo transfer. Hopefully this helps! X

Agapanthus13 · 07/01/2022 12:34

@YouBoggleMyMind that’s really helpful, thank you. So is it the nurses who carry out the egg collection & transfer rather than the consultants?

YouBoggleMyMind · 07/01/2022 15:46

No, the Consultant did the actual egg collection procedure but Nikki (Nurse Manager) was with me the whole time along with another nurse, embryologist and fertility midwife in the room. Nikki did do my embryo transfer with the help of another Dr scanning me and the embryologist bringing in the prepared embryo. I think Nikki is prolly the only Nurse that does embryo transfers due to her experience though I could be wrong.

Defo meant to write Anaesthetist not Nurse!
