Hi all,

I am about to embark on a 3rd ivf cycle and I got a new prescription for drugs.

The clinic sent the prescription to their chosen provider, Pharmasure.

1- Does anyone know how their prices compare to other pharmacies?
2- Does ASDA still supply ivf drugs?
3 - any ideas about the difference between Crinone and Utrogestan? I have lots of utrogestan left over, but now have to buy crinone too.
4 - what the difference between the effects of Norethisterone and Mycrogynon 30 is.

Many thanks!

  1. I don't know about that pharmacy's prices, my clinic partners with stork and prices are expensive, I get a private prescription and go to Asda instead where it's a lot cheaper. Without pricing up your prescription at both places it's difficult to know the price difference.
  1. Yes ASDA still supply IVF drugs, you just take a private prescription there, they often need to order things in so don't leave it to the last minute.
  1. Crinone is a progesterone gel, utrogestan a vaginal pessary. I am on cyclogest (also a pessary and can also be used rectally) and lubion (an injection). I know progesterone gels are used. But I personally prefer the pessaries and injections. If you have in date utrogestan left maybe ask about switching to that for this cycle, I think crinone is unlikely to provide an advantage. Sometimes clinics favour a certain version of progesterone due to supply issues, you could try calling both the clinics pharmacy and Asda to check stock levels before asking to change.
  1. Noresthisterone is artificial progesterone, it's main use outside of IVF is to delay a period. Microgynon 30 is a combined OCP, I guess that you've been prescribed one in the past for suppression and now the other, I'm not sure how much difference various suppression medications have. I took noresthisterone in my fresh cycle.

@TurquoiseVixen ... my cycle was recently cancelled due to lack of response ... but I have loads of Utrogestan left from a failed FET. My clinic had stated they would prescribe Crinone so I asked if I could use the Utrogestan I had left and they said it was no problem at all ... they are well aware that we are financially crippled by all this! xx
