Poor sperm fragmentation - chance of IVF success?

Hi all

Had egg collection last month and waiting for the frozen embryo transfer next month.

Results weren’t great -
Out of 20 collected, 10 fertilised , 7 were looking good at day 3 but only 2 were suitable for freezing at day 5 and quality for both we’re not great(grade 2BB- and 2-3BB)

Consultant said the big drop off could be to do with sperm issues - the usual sperm analysis didn’t flag anything up. We decided to do sperm fragmentation tests and results have shown DH has poor average sperm fragmentation (36%). We’ve had three miscarriages previously so not sure if sperm fragmentation is the cause.

Wondering if anyone could share their experience with poor sperm fragmentation and non ICSI IVF success rates (as we didn’t do ICSI this time round)

Is it worthwhile trying to push for the clinic to transfer two embryos?

Thanks

Hi @Goldshill123 has your DH seen a urologist? Could be there is a reason for the DNA frag that can be fixed. We found that DNA frag results were improved with the use of a zymot chip, waiting to put this to the test with another egg collection in the new year 🤞x

Thanks for your reply @Dbop100
No we haven’t seen a urologist yet but trying to get ourself an appointment with Jonathan Ramsey as heard his name mentioned a lot on these forums!

Good luck in the new year! Can I ask - what was your average sperm fragmentation before and after zymot chip? Also what clinic are you doing your IVF? Doesn’t look like a lot of clinics offer the chip!

Yes we saw him he's the best! We went to Mr Minhas first who couldn't find anything that was causing it so my husband did 3 months of lifestyle changes. His average was 37% in May, we then retested in September and switched to Mr Ramsay and it had gone up to 50% 🤦‍♀️ Mr Ramsay re-tested him and deduced it was probably caused by his long covid. He then tested him in Nov with the sperm going through the zymot chip and it was down to 30%, which is good enough for IVF, but we need to use zymot and then ICSI. We're going to try and do it at Care London as they use the chip. Also really trying to avoid my husband getting covid again! He had it 14th that ago and it's been so awful for his sperm.
