5bc embryo success stories

Hi

Can I ask if anyone has had success with a 5bc embryo? It's not last our of 6. I have my 3 your old daughter from a 4aa from this cycle.

We've just had a 5bb fail so wondering if there's any point considering the 5bc one. The money and stress is unreal so maybe I should just give up now?

Thanks in advance.

Ging

I don’t have any personal experience with a 5bc, but remember that the embryo grading is a tiny aspect of what leads to a successful pregnancy. It’s perfectly possible to have a 5bc that is genetically normal, and that’s the most important part.

While it gives us an idea how the embryo looks visually and it can help rule a small percentage out that look abnormal, it’s a small piece of the puzzle.

It’s your own personal choice, but I would rule out a 5bc personally.

IAmSickOfWaiting · 28/11/2021 20:41

I meant I “wouldn't rule out a 5bc”. To clarify, I’d transfer a 5bc personally. Sorry for the typo.

If it were me, I'd absolutely have to try it. Worse graded embryos have become babies so it's by no means a pointless effort, and it's your last one. I'd always be asking what if. But we're all different and you do have your little girl already Smile Only you know if you can walk away without regrets.

Holskey · 28/11/2021 21:16

Oh, I should just add, seeing as though you asked for experiences - I don't know the grades of any of my embryos! I never asked because I didn't need the worry and I was always going to transfer anyway. I don't know what grade embryo became my son.

Shamoo · 28/11/2021 21:49

I had genetic testing and my worst grade embryos were the genetically good ones. Including a 3bc and a 3cb. Not had any transfers yet but goes to show they can be genetically good.

Good luck Op

Lemongrass1 · 28/11/2021 22:02

We have 6 month twins from a 3bb and 5ca double transfer (they recommended to transfer two as they were unlikely to both stick!). So I definitely wouldn’t discount your 5bc. Good luck xx

Lemongrass1 · 28/11/2021 22:06

Just to add the twins were embryos 6&7 from the same collection. From the previous 5 better grades embryos one resulted in their older sister.

Scirocco · 28/11/2021 23:05

If an embryo is good enough to transfer then it's good enough to have a chance at becoming a viable pregnancy. Grading is just one aspect and doesn't say anything about whether or not an embryo is genetically healthy.

I'd give it a chance - if you don't try, you'll never know.

Me! I had my son with a 5BB two years and and I'm now just over five weeks pregnant with a six day 5BC. I was planning to use another 5BB but it didn't survive the thaw and this was the last frostie. Keeping everything crossed it sticks.

Ging78 · 30/11/2021 07:23

Thanks so much ladies. I really appreciate all of your responses and your experiences.

I'm having a follow up consultation on the phone tomorrow.

I'll need to convince my OH. He said (again) that was definitely the last one.

I turn 44 in March so maybe I'm mad to even consider it.

@Pengiundisco oh wow best of luck. You must have your viability scan soon. Fingers crossed!

@lemongrass1 that's so reassuring. I was afraid that 4 failed transfers meant there was no way the last would work!

Thanks so much ladies!

I’m 36. Normal ovarian reserve for my age. No endo or PCOS. Non smoker don’t really drink. Lead a healthy lifestyle, loads of fruit and veg, regular exercise. Partner (M) is very fit and active. Also non smoker, does like a drink but has cut down massively. TTC for 2.5 years with no joy. Unexplained infertility. Currently going through IVF. First round. On day of egg collections I had 18 follicles, 10 good seized ones so 10 eggs expected. Retrieved 6 eggs, 5 fertilised (ICSI) 3 got to day 5 - 1 grade 2/3 equivalent to 5BC and 2 grade 3/3 (un-freezable) Had my best and only embryo implanted yesterday 14/06. They said it was still worth doing as some really good quality embryos don’t implant and some lesser quality ones do. Has anyone had success with a similar quality embryo?

Thank you in advance.

Pengiundisco · 15/06/2023 15:49

My 5BC embryo turned into a lovely baby girl, who'll be one next month! I was 34 and with similar circumstances to you.

Hope you have success with your transfer.

PB86 · 15/06/2023 17:34

@Pengiundisco thank you so much for replying!

NorthernDuckling · 15/06/2023 18:08

@PB86 I’m currently 13 weeks with a 2/3 embryo, my 1/2 and 2/2 both failed. I had similar collection results to you, age 35, 17 follicles, 9 eggs, 5 blasts (one unsuitable for freezing) the one left in the freezer is a 3/2 day 6.

I also had unexplained infertility, but trying 5 years before IVF with no positive. We paid for extra tests between transfer 2 and 3 because there was no reason why the first 2 didn’t implant and turns out I have APS. Now on heparin and aspirin and this one’s stuck 😍 a bit sad I didn’t pay for the tests at the beginning because it may have saved a lot of heartache. Having said that the clinic was reluctant to allow us the tests so glad I pushed for them (APS is fairly rare).

PB86 · 15/06/2023 19:58

@NorthernDuckling thank you so much for replying! Your journey is very similar to mine! It gives me such hope hearing stories like yours so thank you.

PB86 · 15/06/2023 20:01

@NorthernDuckling ive never heard of APS? We’ve had our treatment on the NHS and they don’t allow any testing which is really annoying as I don’t even know if the embryo I’ve had implanted is genetically normal?!

NorthernDuckling · 15/06/2023 20:40

@PB86 I was NHS too but I pushed for further testing (which we paid for) I felt that if we put the 3rd embryo in and it didn’t work we’d just have the one left and it was the least likely to work. The tests were c£1k so a lot cheaper than a second private round. Fortunately I saw a different consultant to my usual one and she was supportive of us getting the tests (they usually don’t recommend until 3 failed transfers). APS is a clotting disorder, it’s easy to test for and fairly treatable (anti phospholipid syndrome). She didn’t recommend the immune tests because she said there wasn’t much evidence and we should start with the clotting tests and see about further tests if we had a 3rd failed transfer - which came back positive.

have you looked at Dr Robert Winstons site - genesis. It’s good, they do lots of research into ivf but he is pretty scathing about the tests a lot of fertility clinics recommend (he pioneered genetic testing) it sounds like often the genetic tests can be inconclusive, the nhs will only support proven tests.

I really hope you have success with this transfer. If it doesn’t work though don’t be afraid to push for more answers - I feel “unexplained infertility” is a bit of a mislabel there is usually a reason.

PB86 · 15/06/2023 21:49

@NorthernDuckling we haven’t really discussed any of the tests because they told us from the off that we wouldn’t be allowed to pay for any extras at all. Something about not being allowed to mix NHS and private which feels really unfair as there is more they could have done to help improve the embryos but we couldn’t add it on.

I’ve never heard of Dr Winston I’ll have a look at his website though.

Thank you so much! I’m just keeping everything crossed and hoping for the best. If it doesn’t work though I will want answers as if we’re going back as private patients and paying for the privilege I won’t be happy just to be given the same protocol again with no answers.

Good Morning,

we have 4 frozen embryos
3BA
4AA (6day)
5BC
4BC.

We had IVF before and lucky enough that from our previous 4AA. We have baby girl now.we want to balance our family now .But as per New zealand law they don’t do gender testing.my question is which embryo should we implant as to get baby boy.didany one implanted above embryos as result in baby boy?
thanks in advance.

Pengiundisco · 21/08/2023 09:06

It doesn't work like that. Most people on this forum are delighted if they get to bring home a healthy baby and don't give a fig about the sex.

P.S. there is no medical test for 'gender'.
