Pregnant but found out remaining blastocysts are PGS ABNORMAL (1 Post)

Hi - first time posting and would appreciate any guidance.

After 3 round of egg retrieval and 1 MC at 9 weeks I am 4.5 weeks pregnant after transferring 2 fresh embryos, which I didnt test.

I PGS tested my remaining 10 day 5 blastocysts and found out today only 1 is normal and 1 low level mosaic. Pretty devastated and so so worried I am now just waiting to miscarry. The last miscarriage destroyed me and feel I have a ticking time bomb inside me waiting to go off and miscarry again.

Has anyone been in a similar position?

If I do miscarry, I will likely go for my 4th round of egg collection. Is there anything different I should do? I always get a lot of eggs (I have PCOS) but quality/normal PGS is the issue.

Thank you for any advice. My anxiety levels are through the roof.

To add: i know even seeing that positive line on a pregnancy test is something i have hoped/dreamed for so long and dont want to downplay that but the fear or miscarrying now is immense. The odds are not in my favour. Im 38 and my partner is 39.

@tryingtokeepthefaith when embryos are tested the sample size is so small that you can't predict the results of untested embryos from others that were tested. Mosaic embryos can correct themselves, so that one doesn't mean anything.

As for the aneuploid ones, aneuploid embryos will tend to not implant or result in a chemical, which you've already overcome. Aneuploid embryos may also result in a miscarriage or a condition like Downs, but there's no evidence that the embryos you've implanted will be aneuploid.

Many people transfer untested embryos so you're as pregnant as everyone that does that (which in the UK is most people). Try and put it to the back of your mind. There's nothing that you can do to change the situation.

@Gardenlady543 thank you so much for your thoughtful response. I hope you are right and take your point that im in the same position as so many others. thanks again

OP, how many did you test total that had 1 aneuploid and one mosaic?
As Gardenlady said, the sample size is too small to be very meaningful. But also if you only tested like 4 in the first place, that's a cohort of 6, where so 3 abnormal, 1 mosiac, and 2 euploid would be in line with statistics, and it would be in line with you having the one other euploid on board for example.

Ultimately there was also a reduced chance of another aneuploid implanting and making it very far, so that is another way to look at it that its more likely you won't MC. I am also struggling with anxiety (extreme- almost debilitating), but maybe thinking about it these ways might help? Ultimately you just can't do much with small sample sizes but the fact you've come this far is very encouraging and try not to obsess (easier said than done I know!)

Thank you @tulipsandsnow. I tested 10. So sadly not in line with the statistics - was hoping we would get 30-40% back normal.

I'll try and not obsess - it really does take over everything. Best wishes to you.

I tested age 36 and didn't get any euploids - transferred 2 untested on my transfer and had healthy twins - You've got to try and compartmentalise the ones you have transferred from the ones you tested.- every batch of embryos is different - the science of PGS isn't 100% accurate either (I know that's no consultation when you've paid out thousands for testing)

I was incredibly anxious about losing my twins - I set myself little goals - every day was a milestone to be reached and ticked off. Take it an hour or minute at a time

tulipsandsnow · 24/11/2021 20:09

In theory, from a cohort of 12, the two you transferred and 1/10 of the 10 you tested, could all be normal...so 3/12 = 25%, getting close to the 30% marker. The fact that only one stuck doesn't mean the other wasn't euploid- it could have been, by some metrics only 50-70% of euploids lead to ongoing pregnancies, which is obviously far from 100%!

It's a bit like picking 3 coloured marbles out of a bag of 12- the first two could just happen to both be the colour you want, then the third one could come anywhere else along the ordering. Just so hard to predict, infuriatingly!

Thank you for the good wishes! I am sitting here right now wondering if my own odds have worked, I feel intuitively they haven't (even though it was a euploid transfer), but it's just part of it all! It's very easy to recommend others to not obsess, its another thing entirely to take my own advice! But really you've come this far, congrats and I'm sure will work out Flowers

I can see why you're thinking as you are @tryingtokeepthefaith, but perhaps you need to look at it the other way: if all but two of your tested embryos came back euploid, you'd be panicking that the 2 you tested must be aneuploid because the odds of having so many euploid would be quite low.

Congratulations and the best of luck to you 💕

WakeuptoCake · 26/11/2021 11:43

I did ivf and got 1 out of 8 euploid.
This pregnancy I didn’t get to test any ( out of three) and one worked and due soon. The odds were not in my favour for this to be euploid. Keep faith and hope
