If you were going for IVF at 36, would you get your embryos tested? I have no known fertility issues.

Such an interesting discussion, and agree it’s such a personal choice.

I did two rounds of IVF at 38 and 39 with no testing. Including frozens from this I had 5 transfers with 2 MMC, 2 chemical and 1 that didn’t stick. The clinic kept telling me it was likely my age and egg quality, as other tests came back fine. I felt I could only move forward with more answers on quality and so decided to do some rounds with genetic testing. Over the next three rounds I banked 10 blastocysts of which 6 were genetically normal, one no result and 3 aneuploid.

I am so glad that I did this, even though 1 round meant I had no good ones from it which was tough. It means I know I likely have a different issue to fix, but I can make healthy embryos. I have now decided no more egg collections, I’m either going to have a baby from what I have or I’m not. It’s given me a lot of peace of mind. But I realise my results have been very lucky. And also my embryo grades are not amazing which means I still have a worry.

I also have three more frozen from the first two fresh rounds, not tested. I wouldn’t defrost them, if I need to I will just transfer them and hope. Too worried about the risk of ruining them with the double defrost.
