Cetrotide all over itching/rash reaction - is this normal?

Hello everyone

I just started cetrotide yesterday for the first time and I came out in hives on my legs, itching all over, sore eyes and increased heart rate a couple of hours in, as well as small rash and stinging around the actual injection site. Took an antihistamine but the itching is still there.

Clinic advised to continue taking it as normal and go to A&E if I get any further reaction, so feeling a bit scared about the dose this morning which is currently defrosting. Anyone had similar or words of reassurance before I attempt to stab myself and risk an allergic reaction again?

What to you mean defrosting? Have you kept it in the freezer? From what I remember it just needs refrigerating and taken out about 10 minutes before injecting.

I used to get a red, raised, itchy patch from the injection site but no other reaction.

@VenusStarr
Yes i meant from the fridge! I normally wait about 30 mins for it warm up. The nurse stayed on the line with me while I injected in case of immediate reaction, so now I just have to sit and wait and have to go in tomorrow to discuss. Feeling a bit groggy with the antihistamines on top of everything else.

Yes I got red itchy patch at the site, but a few hours after a load of hives and itchy all over appeared, and felt a bit 'weird', Fingers crossed for this one

@BlueSilver23 Yeah thats not usual. Hope you didn't get the same reaction again

@2mumlife

have been taking anti-histamine so fingers crossed no rash again today when I injected it poured of blood, like soaked through an entire tissue poured...... and now there is a massive painful swollen bruise within minutes

Tried to call my clinic but no answer from either their normal phone line of the emergency number (which they appear to have switched off) no way of getting in contact in an emergency for around an hour which is not great. So much for an emergency nurses line Hmm Really hoping I haven't done anything awful like injected into a vein

@BlueSilver23 Don't think I've ever had blood from the injections, other than a tiny pinprick really. I was on fyremadel though rather than centrotide, which is slightly different drug I think. Still, sounds like you are having quite the time of it....! Maybe speak to them about a different protocol using alternative drugs if you need another cycle in the future
