IVF Injections

Hi, I'm completely new to mumsnet but thought I'd join as I'm just starting IVF and have just started on the dreaded injections. The injections don't bother me too much but I am bleeding quite a bit everytime I inject myself. The first time the nurse said that it was just bad luck and not to worry as it won't happen again but I have bled everytime I inject myself and its quite a bit too. I'm not sure why as I'm following all instructions and have a good bit of fat on my abdomen! I haven't told the nurses yet that I'm still bleeding from the site everytime I inject but I wondered if anyone here had the same experience or any words of reassurance? Seeing the nurse tomorrow but could do with some support (I'm doing this alone so no other half to offload on!)

Hi there,

It happened to me a few times. I have some areas where I always bleed so I try to avoid these, but it doesn't work all the times. I always swap sides and areas, sometimes I inject farther from the belly button and not necessarily in the fat.
The first times I injected myself my hands were shaking and I was feeling sick all the way through. I even cut myself while opening vials. At the same time I never wanted my husband to do the injections for me. He was only allowed to open the vials of menopur. After a while I got used to everything and now I can do it while watching a movie.
It's ok to be scared and overwhelmed, but trust me you can do this! It will get better!
Speak to the nurse tomorrow, perhaps she can show you some tips and tricks or doublecheck if everything is ok.
Good luck! 🍀💗

Here is a few tips you might consider. Keep the syringe pressed down inside you for least 5 seconds once all the liquid is gone.

When removing the syringe from your belly keep it pressed down, don't let go of the pressure as if you do it will cause a suction which will cause the syringe to draw blood out of you, which might be causing the bleeding.
