Wondering if anyone could share their views on what we experienced on Friday? Trying to decide whether to contact hospital with feedback on the situation.
We have an initial appointment with a consultant next week, so went for some tests last Friday. I had bloods and scan, OH had semen analysis.
Last Monday OH started to feel unwell at work and developed high temperature (took a PCR test, not Covid). By tuesday afternoon his temp was normal but still didn't feel 100%. Noticed dark urine on Weds, he assumed he just needed to drink more water. On Thurs it was hurting to urinate so we assumed with the fever earlier in the week, he must have a kidney/urine infection. I called clinic on Thursday morning and asked whether we should go ahead with his test or if it would be better to wait, they took my details and said a nurse would get back to me but noone did.
On Friday we went for tests as scheduled. Partner provided his sample (but didn't mention he'd felt unwell that week, was all a bit rushed when we were there and he didn't get an opportunity to). I had my tests, then we went to accounts team to sort payment.
The accounts room was tiny and I sat down at the desk while OH stood in doorway. A couple of minutes later, a man and woman in scrubs came along and said "oh here he is". Then, while the woman in scrubs was in the middle of the busy corridor, OH in doorway, me and two accounts staff in small room, woman in scrubs started to loudly tell us how they'd detected an infection and they'd have to let the consultant know as it might have to be treated and they'd picked up antimicrobial cells in the sample. Both OH and I weren't surprised at all and had been expecting as much, however I felt incredibly embarrassed to be told in such a public way. It felt like she was saying he had an STI. OH told her he'd had a fever that week and said he'd been feeling unwell and them it was left like that. Afterwards there was lots of questions I wish I'd asked, but at the time I was just mortified she was announcing this in front of other people.
Am I being oversensitive? Is it normal for test results to be discussed in a public area in front on non-clinical staff? This is our first time at a private hospital.
