I got my result back for my AMH today but I have no idea what it means! I've attached a picture of the result. Any help would be appreciated x

It does look really high and certainly above the range which is considered normal (the two figures to the right), it would suggest PCOS at this level

CycleGirl20 · 18/10/2021 06:58

How old are you OP and do you know of you have PCOS? I'm 35 and my AMH is high being somewhere in the 30s. I have a lot of follicles. The doctors have been split as to whether they think I have PCOS as I have regular periods. High AMH is usually a good sign as it means you have a lot of egg reserve left. For PCOS there is a risk of you did IVF they might get a lot of immature eggs, but I think women with PCOS have higher odds at IVF due to more eggs to play with in part

tiggerwhocamefortea · 18/10/2021 07:52

There is some truth in that @CycleGirl20 however PCOS means high risk for OHSS and also generally much lower egg quality so any IVF cycle had to be managed really carefully and many clinics won't accept women with a very high AMH

CycleGirl20 · 18/10/2021 09:23

You seem really knowledgeable @tiggerwhocamefortea! You put my mind at ease on another thread regarding implementation failure!

OP might not have PCOS. She does have a high AMH but if she's in her early 20s it is in the high normal range. I found "suspected PCOS" written in my notes from my clinic even though the doctor hadn't mentioned it to me and it caused me 2 days of panic over what it might mean for me, having not been properly informed. I guess OP needs to talk to her doctor/clinic.

@Bec18x welcome to the high AMH club! Mine was 85 the last time I had it tested. When we followed it up with an ultrasound, they did find PCO on one of my ovaries. So for me it was an indicator of PCOS but it does depend on your other hormones too.

Have you had your other hormones tested - particularly testosterone, LH and FSH? Mine all came back as normal according to the GP, but when I went to the fertility specialist he pointed out that the ratio of LH and FSH was opposite to what it should be.

How long are your cycles? Do you know if you ovulate on a regular basis? When my AMH was high I was having 5 month + cycles so I can imagine I had a lot of undeveloped follicles from lack of ovulation.

thislittlebird · 18/10/2021 17:50

@CycleGirl20 I’m like you having 30 something AMH and possible PCO/PCOS. All very vague, I find.

IVFhadenough · 18/10/2021 18:27

My AMH was 122.

You will need to be put on to an antagonist protocol to avoid something called ovarian hyper stimulation syndrome (OHSS). It’s a sign of your ovarian reserve, is you don’t ovulate monthly during an average cycle it can lead to a high AMH.

The antagonist protocol also includes a non-hCG trigger as the hCG trigger can exacerbate the likelihood of OHSS. They also advise a frozen transfer too, as that will also lower the OHSS risk.

I did all of the above. I got 25 eggs at my collection! My ovaries were touching and I was quite uncomfortable come collection.

Thank you all for your replies!
Yes I do have PCOS so that would explain the result then. I am 26 and not sure if I ovulate although I had an ovulation peak on Saturday for the first time ever so technically now 1dpo.

@Bec18x PCOS is caused by a multitude of problems, mostly hormonal, and they can all do as they’re supposed to (sometimes) and you can ovulate sometimes. Some women with PCOS still ovulate monthly.

I’m one of those who has PCOS and that doesn’t ovulate, so my AMH was through the roof for that reason.

bfnancy · 18/10/2021 19:27

@Bec18x it is so hard to tell if you're actually ovulating with PCOS. As your LH levels can be inflated, sometimes you get a peak on an ovulation stick but then not actually ovulate. The only thing I have found to work is to track my BBT alongside ovulation sticks. If I get a peak and then my temperature rises, I know I have ovulated. If I get a peak and then my temperature stays the same, I know my ovaries tried to ovulate but didn't (this happens 2-3 times when I have a longer cycle, usually every 7 days or so).

After reading lots of good things about inositol I started taking it daily and now have regular 30 day cycles and ovulate every month. I cannot recommend it for PCOS more! I have also taken a multitude of other supplements but that seems to be the most effective one in my experience. Wish I had known about it when we started TTC as it would have saved me a good 10 months of heart ache.

Bec18x · 18/10/2021 20:22

I've never had a peak before and it was gradual and then came back down. I hope I have but obviously after all this time I'm not going to get too excited about it but I'll ask to get my progesterone level checked to see if I have or not

Nice! That looks good. Fingers crossed for you. The progesterone blood test will confirm either way so that's a good idea!

IsabelHerna · 21/10/2021 11:09

That looks very good! Baby dust to you!
