AMH test

I have made the decision to look into IVF. I have chosen a clinic and made contact with them (scary times!). They have said that the first thing we need to do is have SA, pelvic scan and an AMH test, however we have already had the scan and SA so only need the AMH test. Is this something you can get done as a standalone test? If so where? Also what exactly happens for this test?

We are self funding so want to try and keep the costs down as much as possible as appreciate treatment can be very expensive. The clinic offer these tests as an all in one package, so I was hoping if I could get the AMH done elsewhere I can then send them all of our test results and skip the first £400 to have the other tests repeated.

Hi, yes if you can forward the tests onto the clinic you don't need to repeat. My clinic charges £85 for an AMH. I managed to get the AMH and my day 3 and day 5 blood tests and the semen analysis on the NHS. I think it's probably quite hard to get the AMH done through the NHS though, basically my GP didn't know what tests I needed so I wrote a list for them.

I then paid for the ultrasound and first consultation. The ultrasound might be an issue as the clinic may want to do it themselves, it's value is dependent on the operator who does it. At my clinic a nurse does the scan and passes a report to the doctor. So if you have the report you might be ok.

Just so you're aware there will be other tests before IVF: hepatitis B,C, HIV and a chlamydia swab.

Thanks @Gardenlady543 that’s really helpful. I’ve had all of the STI screening tests done as well, so I’ll get my GP to get them together and send them over for them. Hopefully they will be able to offer the AMH as a standalone test then. Is it a blood test?

Hi @Nearlymyturn yes AMH is a blood test, if you can ask the clinic you are interested in to do it, that would be useful.

Ask your gp to print off all the relevant test results and then hand them over to the clinic (keep copies in case you need them). Then arrange a consultation with a specialist, they will advise if they need any further tests.
