I would call the embassy to ask but I think you can have medical treatment with an ESTA. I’m assuming you’ll be there less than 90 days?

If not then a tourist visa is B2. I had one and the application takes much longer. It’s more expensive and involves a trip to the Embassy for an interview.

@betsyboo87 Thank you. Yes it would around 2-3 weeks only but I'll need to travel 3-4 times for alternate month for egg retrieval and transfer. can i carry ivf medication from uk too with ESTA visa?

When are you planning on travelling?. I ask only as the US has not opened up its borders fully as yet.

You should contact the US embassy re the visa requirement.

I have no idea re medication. I know ladies have done before but I don’t know about travel to/from the US.

If you’re travelling there a number of times in a short period of time then they can start to ask more questions. Definitely speak with the embassy and ensure you have lots of paperwork with you when you go (treatment plan, return flights etc).

Can I ask why you’re going to the US for treatment? Sorry if it’s too nosy then you don’t have to answer! We knew we would likely need it whilst living there so looked into it a bit at it was crazy expensive.

You will in all likelihood need a B-2 visa rather than using the ESTA (visa waiver) scheme (for tourists on non essential travel).

I can't help regarding the visa, but I travelled abroad for treatment and the clinic were very clear that all medication had to be in my hand luggage, not the hold, because of the temperature.

Some of my medication had to be jeot chilled, the ice packs that came with it were fine and stayed frozen for ages.
Plenty of people with medical conditions travel with needles or medication but I'd make sure you have documentation to justify why you're carrying it.
Also take account of any different time zones for when to take your medication.
