IMSI

Did anyone have IMSI and were you successful? The HFEA rates it red and our private doctor suggested we have it, in addition to ICSI. I’m a little cynical about add-ons and not sure whether to push back or give it a go.

Bump, anyone?

I had IMSI at the Lister and was successful. I had twins as a result.

thislittlebird · 13/10/2021 19:35

@Thischarmlessgirl ahhhh, thank you for replying! I felt like I was the only one ever having it suggested. I’m at the Lister too, our doctor suggested it and for the sake of a few hundred pounds I keep thinking we might as well try but the HFEA stuff put me off.

Amazing that you had twins. Did you have one or two embryos put back?

Hi, also at Lister and did IMSI. Not done a transfer yet but it didn’t have an adverse impact anyway.

Thischarmlessgirl · 13/10/2021 20:06

@thislittlebird we were under Dr Faris at The Lister who suggested it to us, we had two embryos transferred. It definitely seemed to make a difference to the quality of our embryos. Very best of luck x

@Thischarmlessgirl ah yeah, same doctor!

@Dochas121 fingers crossed for your transfer, when are you hoping to do it?

Our doctor (crgh) also recommended imsi following a low fertilisation rate in the previous icsi cycle. We were also concerned about the red rating. The way he explained the red rating from HFEA: it is a procedure which does not help everyone, but for some groups it improves the results. So in our case selecting a morphologically better sperm should hopefully increase the number of fertilised eggs.

thislittlebird · 16/10/2021 08:32

@TurquoiseVixen that’s interesting, thanks. I’m hoping that applies to us too. My husband has really poor motility but ok morphology at the last test, maybe he’ll have some decent ones with the right shape. Have you had the outcome of the IMSI cycle?

Not yet, we are starting our cycle in November.
Same with us - low motility, and we had only 4 blastocytes from 10 mature eggs when using icsi last time, which is rather low.

thislittlebird · 16/10/2021 16:34

@TurquoiseVixen that’s my fear for us. I have a good egg reserve but maybe PCOS, and DH has the motility issue. I’m quite concerned we might get eggs ok but they won’t fertilise. We’re contemplating whether to do the private cycle in November. Our NHS round will probably???? be January/February.

I think I saw in another thread that you are waiting for the nhs funded cycle at guys. I won't advise whether you should do a privately-funded cycle in the meantime, but I can share what we are doing.
We did our first cycle at guys earlier this year.
[I was really disappointed by the admin side, and because of their waiting times (+covid) we lost a lot of time-years. In contrast, doctors and nurses were great, and I had a good experience, when the treatment actually started.]
I still have one nhs-funded FET available there, but I am taking opportunity to do a freeze all cycle at crgh, with a view of banking embryos. After that I am planning to go back to guys for that last nhs FET.

@TurquoiseVixen yeah that’s me, I’m in the Guys gang. How long were you on the waiting list out of curiosity? It all seems so variable from things I’ve read on here.

Is the CRGH freeze all self-funded? I know some people seem to transfer funding to CRGH.

I wouldn’t mind so much if Guys could just say you’ll be treated by X date but 2022 is so vague. Will I be called in January? February? March? It’s unclear. I’m twitchy about it. Our private clinic said we could do a private round in November/December.

How much notice did you get from Guys to start treatment?

Funding approved in Jul, they got in touch in Nov, the treatment was scheduled for Jan.

TurquoiseVixen · 17/10/2021 14:50

And yes crgh is self funded

thislittlebird · 17/10/2021 20:39

@TurquoiseVixen a similar wait to us in theory, but we hit Christmas 🙄. Did you find you were fretting about your age? I definitely am and not being able to do a transfer until near 39 worries me in case I have more problems as yet undiscovered.
