Can a polyp be removed in a laparoscopy?

My NHS fertility clinic tried to do a HyFoSy earlier this year and failed. They referred me for a laparoscopy instead and said this could also check for endometriosis, which I am 99% sure I don't have. I had a HyCoSy done privately so know my tubes are clear.

I've been having private fertility treatment done for luteal phase defect, which the NHS doesn't treat. The past few cycles I've had a polyp which my doctor said at first he wasn't worried about but now recommends removal. Unfortunately he won't do it and told me to go to my GP. I can only imagine that this will take several months.

I was minded to cancel the laparoscopy as I don't see a benefit but I wondered if a polyp could be removed this way?

I'm not sure but I have the same question!!! I think it's removed during a hysterscopy rather than laparoscopy but believe these are often done at the same time.

So I asked on another TTC forum and someone said yes, they had a lap to check for endo and coincidentally found a polyp which they removed.

But a lap for a polyp is so extra!! It's a general anaesthetic. I want to call the clinic to see if they can do a hysteroscopy but I'm sure that would be another six month wait.

I don't think a lap has any other benefit. I wish I could ask a doctor. But I can't tell the NHS the truth because they'll cancel the lap and then that won't be an option. I'm going to contact a private gynaecologist tomorrow to enquire about prices.

I know...

I recently had ERPC for a MMC in August and they cut a blood vessel in my uterus and I bled A LOT. I feel extremely anxious and worried about surgery of any kind now. Medical anxiety through the roof.

I just had my most recent FET cycle cancelled because there is something (polyp?) growing in my uterus. Waiting for period to see if it passes naturally or I'll have to do something surgical about it too ConfusedSad

Hi, laparoscopy will look inside the pelvis and the outside of your uterus. A hysteroscopy looks inside the uterus and they can remove the polyp this way. I can’t really see how they could remove an endometrial polyp without doing the hysteroscopy as they won’t be able to reach it. both procedures can be done at same time if needed though. Can you not contact your NHS fertility clinic? Ours arranged for a hysteroscopy on the NHS on the basis of the findings from private hycosy where they found a polyp. X

Thank you. I know the lap will be used to look at my tubes so assumed they'd look inside my uterus somehow but wasn't sure how it'd work.

I will give them a ring. I'm just worried about being told to wait another six months.

I have a consultation with a private gynaecologist tomorrow. I'll have to pay £310 including the scan. I might bench myself this cycle and not take medication, or just try without medication and monitoring, to allow for a polypectomy and hysteroscopy privately. Privately however it will be £1800-£2200.

My NHS fertility clinic is closed on Thursdays but I will phone tomorrow to find out what the lap wait time is right now and ask if they can just do a hysteroscopy instead. I really don't want general anaesthesia.

Feeling really stupid right now. I keep throwing money at trying to have a baby. I have to remove the polyp to make paying for IVF or another medicated cycle worth it. But what if the polyp grows back? And what if we pay for IVF and it doesn't work? I'm just burning money but I don't think I can cope with the alternative.

It's so tough. For me it's the time it all take that slowly crushes my soul....

I've been going full force with FET, full Fresh cycle, another FET, a cancelled cycle, another FET, a MMC, and another cancelled cycle is where I am currently at.

All since last September 2020.

Put on hold since last March coz.... covid....

It's the time it all that's that breaks me.

My hysteroscope and polypectomy privately will cost a fortune... and I have this surgery anxiety now so I haven't booked it and praying it will magically disappear with this period due in a few days time.

Anyway, I feel your pain. I'm sorry. It's bloody awful. It really shouldn't be this hard!!!!
