Please help me interpret my Day 21 blood test levels: LH/FSH/progesterone.

Please can someone help interpret my Day 21 tests as there are no reference ranges reported.

Serum LH level 2.2 U/L
Serum FSH level 3.9 U/L
Serum progesterone 38nmol/L

I have tried to Google the LH and FSH ones but the units of measurement are confusing me, on websites it says "IU" not "U!"

I am 38. Thank you.

Having done further reading, it seems that LH and FSH tests are usually done on Day 3, so I am not sure why mine were done on Day 21...

Who ordered these blood tests, at the very least it should have been explained to you beforehand why these were being done. I would complain about any and all lack of information given to you.

LH and FSH are measured and compared against each other usually around day 2 or 3. These two hormones kickstart the ovulation process so these being measured later in the cycle is not normal for that blood test.

Your progesterone level of 38 seems good but your LH/FSH needs to be taken and compared against each other far earlier in the cycle.

Hi and thanks for your reply.

The GP ordered them. She said I had to have Day 21 bloods done. I said that I had read there were also some Day 3 tests that I should have, and she replied saying that Day 3 tests are for if they think a woman is going into early menopause, but as I had reported that I use OPKs and regularly see a good surge, that the Day 3 tests would be contra-indicated...

"I said that I had read there were also some Day 3 tests that I should have, and she replied saying that Day 3 tests are for if they think a woman is going into early menopause"

Day 2/3 tests are standard tests used by subfertility units to measure and compare LH and FSH levels. These two hormones are important because they kickstart the ovulation process; if these are out of whack then ovulation will be affected. Not all GPs by any means are at all up to speed when it comes to potential subfertility problems.

"but as I had reported that I use OPKs and regularly see a good surge, that the Day 3 tests would be contra-indicated..."

Is this what this GP said?. OPKs are not without their problems and are not always reliable to use particularly if the menstrual cycle is irregular. A subfertility unit will further test both of you and such tests should be done in tandem. You need a diagnosis first and foremost.

Yes it was the GP who said that…
