Polip

Hi all, went in for baseline scan for a FET and was told I might have a polip which would mean I have to stop my treatment and pay some seriously costly tests which may or may not be needed but they can’t say for sure. Does anyone have any experience with this?!

Hello, I can relate to this. With me they also saw smth which could have been a small polyp but it was unsure so they didn’t do anything since August 2020 to Jan 2021 when i was ready to start IVF and then all of a sudden they blocked my cycle saying I must get a hysteroscopy first!

Was super inconsistent with everything they said before and the green light they gave in December. On top of it, only 1 specialist was doing this in the clinic, and only on Mondays, and he was already fully booked.

I was calling all different hospitals trying to find somewhere they would do it so I don’t lose a month waiting - another month!

As a result, there was no polyp seen during the procedure but at least they couldn’t block the treatment based on this anymore. They did block later anyway because of the horrible planning system (or, better, no planning system at all) but that’s another story… I have changed clinics after a completely unsuccessful icsi cycle with nothing to freeze.

But I do know that it is better not to have any polyps as they can prevent implantation…
Hope this helps.

Hi OP,

I'm sorry you were told about a potential polyp as you were about to start a FET cycle.

I have a polypoid endometrium and was told last year if a polyp developed during my cycle I would have to have a freeze all as it might prevent an embryo from implanting.

We decided not to proceed with IVF at that stage and I asked my GP to refer me for a hycosy, which took a while due to last winter's lockdown, but finally happened a few months later. The hycosy confirmed a polyp and I was refered for a Myosure procedure, which combines a hysteroscopy with a polypectomy.

The consultant that did the polypectomy mentioned it would have had to be much bigger to have prevented a pregnancy, but I don't regret it as I would have always wondered.

Is the clinic offering a hycosy? Maybe you could ask your GP to refer you, if you are willing to postpone your FET. Or shop around with other clinics, as the costs tend to vary. With ours, the hycosy would have cost around £400 but the polypectomy would be around £2k, so we stuck with the NHS. The only thing I would have changed would be checking the waiting times of my nearest hospitals first and requesting the referral to the one with the shortest waiting time.

Good luck!

Thank you so much for your responses.
I requested one more scan before trying to go for all the procedures they requested and there was nothing to see on the scan! I think it was because the way the days fell I’d never been in for baseline scan on day 2 before. Whatever it was they are letting us go ahead this month so fingers crossed.
