Egg collection without sedation

Has anyone had egg collection without sedation? We are scheduled in for our egg collection in a few weeks after our last cycle was cancelled due to a cyst. My partner may need TESE on the day which will mean anesthetic for him and I'm struggling to find childcare to be able to stay down beside the clinic which is a 2 hour drive away. I was wondering if the clinic would do the egg collection without sedation so I could drive us home. Or would it be very painful

@try9ng I think it's possible to have EC without sedation. However, I have heard people post about what it's like when they had woken up during sedation and how awful it was for them to feel everything. If I were in your position I would not want to go through this. I hope you can find childcare, as I really wouldn't recommend doing this without the sedation.

Thanks for the reply, it really is a last resort solution. I had childcare organised for the week we were due to have collection in August and unfortunately haven't been able to sort anything else yet. I've emailed the clinic but think they are likely to say no anyway

I had an egg collection with half sedation (London branch of clinic who likes to get you in and out quicker - didn't know that at time but complained afterwards why it was so different to previous ones!) and I can honestly say it was awful and I was the most unwell after that egg collection out of the 5 I had in total

If you refuse sedation I can't see why the clinic could say no, it's your body.
BUT I had a lot of pain after my egg collection, crippling pain, would not have been able to drive. And the notes from collection talk about extensive manipulation of ovaries and bowel to reach everything, plus the initial puncture into the wall of the vagina for the extraction needle. It's not a fine little needle like you used for hormone injections, it's a great big one!
Which is more important, the TESE or egg extraction?
What about another parent from school or nursery?

I had egg removal yesterday and the sedative (2mg) had zero effect on me. I can remember everything and felt everything too. I had 18 follicles, 14 eggs retrieved. It was probably a 6/10 on the pain scale and I actually really enjoyed watching the whole process whilst chatting to the nurse about french braiding hair. A bit tender now so taking paracetamol every 4 hours. I didn't even feel sleepy so honestly not sure what happened there, I heard the nurses checking over what they had given me and they did have gas and air on hand if needed. I think it's different for everyone and you won't really know until it's happening

Thank you all for your replies, the clinic has rang and think I can do it without sedation as a last resort so hopefully it doesn't come to that but has given me some peace of mind

Alternative, there are taxis that will drive you there and back (I know it's 2 hours away). It will cost you but may be a solution. Friend of mine is a taxi driver and occasionally does long round trips (e.g Bristol to London and back in a day).

Thanks hadn't actually considered that as its so far away but I'm going to do some research. It's silly I never actually thought of that and it's a simple solution
