After taking lots of medication privately £££ have just found out a letter from an ivf clinic can enable it to be prescribed via your gp.
I’m not sure if all medications can be as I’m only needing clexane now. Could have saved a packet had I known! Just wanted to let everyone know in case not aware

Many GP’s won’t though, the local CCG prescribing info:

“ 12.4. Private fertility treatment costs
Couples who are not eligible for NHS treatment may consider paying for private fertility treatment. Ensure choice is from a clinic licensed by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA)20.
The HFEA does not regulate the cost of treatment set by private UK fertility clinics. Private clinics set their own prices for treatment – and these do vary from clinic to clinic. Some may include consultation fees and any recommended tests in their overall price, others may not. Some clinics may offer some free counselling, and others may charge for this. Fertility drugs are usually an extra cost and can be very expensive and should be provided privately by the specialist clinic and not at the expense of the NHS. Up until the point the individual is discharged, this remains an episode of care. In this case, the medication should be continued to be supplied privately and a practitioner may refuse to prescribe on the NHS in such a situation as they do not have the clinical responsibility for managing that particular condition.”

Yes, I don’t think it’s every GP , but it’s worth asking. I never read anywhere it’s was a possibility so never asked. I wish I had known to at least ask as I would have saved a lot of money. My clinic never mentioned it and never saw on the threads either

Most CCG won't prescribe clexane - whether you are an NHS patient or not and whether it's a natural pregnancy or IVF

I was proscribed clexane for my first pregnancy (naturally conceived) due to several risk factors by my mater it's hospital NHS consultant - took the script to my GP who refused - complained to CCG - also refused

Turns out there is actually not enough clinical evidence about whether clexane is actually beneficial during pregnancy - which is contrary to every consultant ive seen in every pregnancy since then who have always insisted I take clexane - so that's why GPs are under instruction not to give it.

I had to get mine at the hospital at every scan

What IVF clinics think you can get And what is actually available on the NHS aren't always the same

Hi I’m saying I asked the GP and they HAVE prescribed it. I’m now getting it via NHS.
I can understand that’s not normal everywhere and the reason I never even asked. I don’t have any clotting issue and prescribed as it’s normal for clinics to prescribe for ivf.
I’m just alerting others to ask the question of the GP , if they say no that’s fair enough but if they say yes , then you save money.
