Can someone help interpret DNA frag results

Hi

Can someone help with our results

We had our consultation which DR said dna fragmentation was high, needed to do a 90 day supplement before next cycle

He said 2 out of 3 tests came back abnormal

Then we were sent this which we can't really work out? Is it 33% or 49% dna fragmentation?

I did ask for percentages but we were just sent this over last night

He did say we need to test again in 90 days but it's a horrible thought knowing it may not even be that especially when SA came back normal first time

Thanks for reading
X

Hard to see from the quality of the image. But you go by the average comet score, which looks like 33%

Which supplement is he on? My husband has been advised to take Impryl, but he's also cut out alcohol, caffeine and is trying to eat better x

It means 49% of the sperm have low dna damage and 4% have high dna damage. The average score is a way they take an average to make comparisons against other people’s results overall.

Are you doing ivf? You will probably want to ask for icsi instead.

Also I would ignore the SA being normal. They just look at count, motility and morphology (which are useful to know but don’t show dna damage).

The normal SA limits just mean the man is not in the lowest 5% of the population. The doctors fin you off saying the man is normal when they are not. Do you have the SA figures instead of just being told normal?

@XjustagirlX thank you that makes perfect sense.

Yes we've just had a failed ivf. My partner has had 2 failed cycles prior to this and was unexplained but that was with a previous partner

Yes I have the sa results - i will dig them out
The consultant said we would so Icsi next time
We have a second cycle already paid for as we went through access but he said we can't cycle again until we diet and take supplements for 90 days and have the comet test again

@strawberrysummer19 has your partner had any further investigations about what might be causing the DNA frag? It would be good to rule out an infection or a varicole vein, if it's one of those things there could be a simple solution. Have you seen a specialist urologist? We saw one and he advised that ICSI wouldn't improve chances but PICSI might, although your best bet is to try and lower it rather than work around it.x

@Dbop100 no he hasn't our consultant hasn't even suggested that only what I've read on here

I'm thinking if I could go ahead and freeze my eggs? I didn't think about doing it until now and knowing it may a long process

I'm 39 with low AMH 5.6 so it's worth doing I think? X

@strawberrysummer19 yeah I feel your pain I had an AMH of 2.1 a year ago, not tested since, but I'm 34. I think you have to do what your gut is saying, I understand wanting to do egg freezing because of your age, I wouldn't worry as much about the low AMH.

It's defo worth getting an appt with a Urologist ASAP, Mr Ramsay is meant to be the best. He can do the tests which I think are just a urine for infections and a physical exam and a scan for veins. We saw Mr Minhas as he had a shorter waiting list and the tests and results took only a week. It ruled these things out for my husband so we're just doing diet / lifestyle and waiting another 3 months to retest, BUT it would've been annoying to do these changes then find out months later it was an infection that can be cleared up with antibiotics and then wait another 3 months.
