IVF and Isolating

Hi Everyone

Currently undergoing IVF (EC projected for end of next week). I had my second vaccine dose nearly two weeks ago and am generally surrounded by people that have been double vaccinated. I read on another thread about people isolating before IVF and am now panicking a bit about this. I met with a friend yesterday for dinner, planning to meet another this weekend and have been going in to (the largely empty) office. Am trying to avoid the crowds and the tube and wearing a mask when out and about, but would you be doing more in my situation?

Thanks!

I didn't isolate - there was no way I could given the situation at my work - but it was a risk as my cycle would have been cancelled if I'd tested positive. I balanced the work-related risks by avoiding non-essential social contacts.

If I were doing a cycle at the moment, I'd probably be extra careful about social contacts, shopping, etc. There's a risk that cases could keep going up after the changes in the laws.

I shielded for my first few cycles, but went out to a few places in more recent cycles. Having now seen 4 people either having cycles cancelled or worrying that their cycle would be cancelled on here in the last few days because either they or a close relative has tested positive, I won't be going out while having treatment now.

I popped to the supermarket the other day, there seems to be 2 groups of people, those still wearing masks and taking precautions and those not wearing masks, some of whom seem to what to prove a point and got really close to me, I suspect these are the kind of people who are out at nightclubs and football matches.

I have had 2 jabs but I have been told I need to take a pcr test before I have a hysteroscopy in a couple of weeks, the vaccine won't stop me from testing positive and the procedure getting cancelled. So I will not be risking going out during treatment now.

Obviously shielding won't be possible for everyone. But I think minimizing unnecessary trips out as much as possible is the best option.

Hi -I’m having a transfer in about 3 weeks. I’m lucky because I’m on maternity leave at the mo (usually a teacher and would be hard to isolate -hence while we are pushing forward with a cycle quickly) so I can keep social contact to a minimum. I am also double jabbed now but have heard about double jabbed people catching Covid so I am being pretty cautious. That being said -it’s tricky to stop all social contact -especially if you don’t want people to know you are going through treatment. I have cancelled some meet ups with friends in restaurants in london. I also didn’t take my son to a toddler session yesterday. I’m not sure if I’m going over the top or not?! But also -the cancellation fee at my clinic is expensive and don’t want to risk it. It’s very hard to know how far to take it! I do have to meet up with a colleague in a few days and I am seeing the odd person here and there and would go out with my hubby to sit outside in a restaurant etc but I’m sort of risk assessing each thing and only doing the things deemed low risk! Good luck!

Thanks @Scirocco. I'm going into work a bit as well. Quite empty, which makes me feel a bit reassured.

@Gardenlady543 Thanks. The test would scare me too. I don't get tested but they take my temp. Have been doing a PCR every day.
@mouse1234567 I am limiting social contact as well to an extent, avoiding tube and so on. Saying that, felt a bit peeved, as went for a scan in my clinic today and none of the nurses were wearing masks, so could be being fairly risk averse in my personal life and still catch the virus from the clinic theoretically!

@Mouseorchestra7 I’m quite surprised to hear the nurses weren’t wearing masks-that is a shame for you and other patients.

I have to do a PCR for my clinic so fingers crossed it will be negative!

Mouseorchestra7 · 23/07/2021 15:04

@mouse1234567 Yeah, it's really been playing on my mind since. My concern is the fact that the nurse scanning me wasn't wearing one. Think I will ask her to put one on next time. The clinic should really be a bubble where we don't have to worry about the risk of catching Covid.

Best of luck with your treatment.

Yes I agree. Maybe worth writing an email to the clinic to raise the issue? Since your treatment will be cancelled if you get ill then should be taking all the precautions they can.
