NHS IVF how long and process

Just wondered what the timelines are usually?

We had our first consultation with the fertility clinic in November last year where we had a conversation, we sent the results of some private tests we'd had done and I was asked to do a day two test.

Follow up was April where it transpired the consultant had completely forgotten to refer me for a hycosy, failed to say DP needed a sperm test through them (we had given details of a private one) and basically not done anything they should have.

Anyway, we're just about to complete all the tests and screening (HIV, hepatitis etc), I've had another day 2 test as our first appt was so long ago it had expired. DP had to wait for an appointment this week for sperm test from April.

That all being well when can we expect to actually start?? The age cut off here is 39 and I turn 39 in three months. I'm just so annoyed at how badly the admin and process hasn't been explained.

For context it's male factor infertility, not great sperm, all my stuff is normal.

It greatly depends on area.
At our first appointment we were told there was a 3 year wait to start treatment!
However, I’ve seen people post on here about starting just a few months after their first appointment so it really does depend.

Hello, we had our first appointment with the clinic in January this year and I am currently in the middle of my first cycle now so about 6 month for me which I think is really quick. After the initial tests, bloods, scans and SA, our follow up appointment confirmed we had male factor and our treatment plan was put together. I've found it's been about 4-6 weeks between each appointment, so investigations then 6 weeks later follow up. Once you're officially diagnosed with male factor then you should be good to go.
Our issue is also male factor and everything with me is fine so all of my tests were cut short as soon as that was established I.e I didn't get a Hycosy, just a scan instead.

Good luck x

I had about a 3 month wait for our initial appointment with the clinic, then about 14 months wait to reach the top of the list for treatment. I'd been told the wait to start was more likely to be 18 months, so 14 was a bit of a bonus!

Thanks all. I guess we wait and see but I'm going to contact the clinic today and chase up.

Good luck with your cycle @dogmam
