Doing ivf whilst in jobs where you cannot isolate before transfer

Hi all,
I’m starting a new job as a teacher soon and also want to start a frozen transfer soon. My clinic talks about trying to isolate before transfer but obviously this is not possible as a teacher. How have others in similar jobs found this? I would hate to have to pay a cancellation fee and cancel if I had come in to contact with covid at school.

I work in the NHS and just worked throughout my cycle. I explained to the clinic that isolating wasn't an option and they were fine. We had to have a Covid test just before egg collection in any case. I made sure I was being careful with PPE and hand hygiene etc but accepted there was an element of risk. Appreciate harder in a school where I am assuming PPE isn't worn? You could ask your manager if they are happy for you to wear a mask? Otherwise being rigorous with social distancing indoors and ensuring good ventilation in your rooms is most important.

I didn't isolate but I did have to do covid tests - the cycle would have been cancelled if I'd tested positive.

Thanks both -it’s great to hear other’s experiences. It’s prob unlikely I would come into contact with a covid case but I know at the moment class bubbles are having to isolate for two weeks so obviously this would be terrible timing if it happened.

I understand the worry. My husband is a teacher so it was a big concern of ours too as we were both at fairly high risk of exposure! I felt relatively confident I was okay at work with our PPE etc but he seemed much higher risk. Fingers crossed it works out okay for you 🤞

I'm a teacher and I am currently doing my first cycle and am isolating before treatment at home. My headteacher has been amazing and treatment was treated like any other medical procedure. Have you spoken to your head about it?

Hi @Cat028 I start the new job in sep so wouldn’t want to say anything. Ideally I would really settle into the new role for a few months and then do a transfer nearer Christmas or just after but now reading the comments I’m very tempted to try a transfer just before I start school in sep. I wouldn’t choose to do that and start the job pregnant (although I know it might well not work! ) but it seems like the safest and best option with covid. Just feel bad re new job! I know I shouldn’t tho!

@mouse1234567 I'd do what feels right for you. I put things off for a few months because of a new job and I really wished I hadn't 5 years down the line and still no little one. Do what's right for you, it's super hard to put yourself first when teaching though. Totally get it. Wishing you all the best xx
