Hi, I'm looking at trying the supplement and was wondering if anyone can recommend a particular one? If so, where did you buy it/dose?

Also, is there a difference between inositol and Myoinositol? Both come up on Google and I can't seem to work out if they're two different things.

Inositol can be Myo inositol or D- Chiro inositol - as far as I know most people use Myo inositol to treat PCOS as they work slightly differently. I personally use the Nature's Best Myo inositol powder at 4g a day, but I know others use Inofolic Alpha at 2 sachets a day (this contains folic acid as well).

Thankyou

Hey @pinkstars2501 did you start myo-inositol? I started this month with a tablet form from Amazon (90 tablets take 3 a day) I've got about a weeks supply left and can't decide whether to get the same again for consitency or try the powder form! Good Luck to you!

Pinkstars2501 · 15/07/2021 17:59

Hi! I have but only a couple weeks. I got the powder but next time I think I'll get the pills. It says on the powder that you can take it in hot or cold drinks, but I find it doesn't dissolve brilliantly so you end up with dregs at the bottom of the glass.

Then again, I don't know if that's because I put in the whole 4 grams (the dose it says to on the pot). I've read online though that you can split the dose across morning and evening so might be worth trying.

If it helps, I take the powder with juice and water (mix) either 4g at once or 2g morning and evening (depending on how busy I am). I put a bit of juice in the glass, add the powder, then top up with water and stir continually for at least 30 seconds (making sure the spoon touches the bottom of the glass). I would say 99% of the powder dissolves this way.

If I put the powder in before any liquid or don't stir the bottom of the glass long enough, then I get the annoying residue Smile.

Tablets probably work just as well too - but it's harder to find any without binders or fillers in (like magnesium stearate), so I prefer the "purer" powder.

Ah thanks for that Smile

@iamnotwhouthinkiam @pinkstars2501 would you mind sharing which brand you take please? Thank you :)

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 15/07/2021 20:33

@Snoopbeaglebum - to be honest I've tried a lot of brands (been taking it for years now) - Redwells, Viridian, the original Inofolic (now Inofolic Alpha) and currently Natures Best. They were all much of a muchness imo (a similar fine, white, slightly sweet tasting powder) so I now use whatever's cheapest or easiest (I get other vitamins from Nature's Best, so it's easiest to add it to my order).

Pinkstars2501 · 15/07/2021 20:48

I'm using Natures Best.

Glad you mentioned the sweet taste @IamnotwhouthinkIam I thought I was going nuts. I don't take sugar in coffee and because the powder isn't meant to taste of anything, I put it in my morning coffee... Definitely tastes like it's got a bit of sugar in! I think I'll go back to juice.

Thank you! I might give it a try. I'm wondering if it would be easier to use the powder its difficult to remember to take the tablets with food 3x a day. Especially when your at work!

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 16/07/2021 11:21

@Pinkstars2501- Yep a definite hint of sweetness (which I suppose is better than it being bitter! Grin) I personally think its better to take it with a bit of fruit juice anyway because I read that vitamin C can help with absorption of other vitamins and minerals (myo -inositol is sometimes considered a member of the B vitamin family) - don't know if it's true, but it can't hurt!

Pinkstars2501 · 16/07/2021 15:03

Yes definitely better than bitter! Oh good idea with the orange juice, I'll try that.

Do we need to get hormones tested before we take it? Because I do have a diagnosis of PCOS but my insulin and all other blood work hormones were normal? I want to start it because I've heard it helps with ovulation and I want to conceive but I'm worried it may mess with my hormones (if they're not already messed up) I'm not sure. Any advice?

Pinkstars2501 · 29/07/2021 15:41

I didn't. Purely because I don't believe they're testing me properly. I have endometriosis and I'm convinced that because I have that diagnosis, that they're just assuming those are all my issues.

It was a fertility nurse who suggested I try it years ago to regulate periods and reduce weight and I've been on it ever since. But as far as I know my hormone levels and blood sugar when checked have always been within "normal" levels.

I would think only having low blood sugar and low testosterone levels already might cause any problems (which are unlikely with PCOS) - since myo-inositol apparently works to lower/regulate insulin levels as well as testosterone.
